Roman Britain- Why did the Romans Invade Britain? Speaking/Listening and Writing
Three lessons to produce an assessment on Roman Britain using text mapping to embed the content and model language needed to produce a good answer. The teacher shows the PowerPoint to teach or revisit the content and then uses the pictures in the text map to reproduce the answer to the questions. Students have the model, or look at it on the screen, listen and correct the teacher if a phrase or fact is missed. Students work in pairs to test each other- one has the model, the one being tested has the text map. Then they write a couple of paragraphs on their own to see if they can reproduce the text. The text map and model can be taken home to prepare for the assessment. The assessment can be done with or without the text map for support- differentiation. Also includes key words translated into Hungarian.
This is suitable for:
• The whole class
• EAL students (new to English, early stage, advanced stage)
• Individual students who need to catch up
• Students with SEN may also find it more accessible.
