Help Primary pupils build confidence, self-worth, and a positive mindset with this uplifting PSHE lesson on self-esteem and personal development. Through reflection, creativity, and kindness-based activities, children learn to recognise their strengths, give and receive compliments, and celebrate what makes them special.
Lesson Overview:
Starter Activity: Pass the Compliment Circle Game – Pupils pass a kind compliment to the person next to them to start the day on a positive note.
Main Activities:
“I Am Amazing Because…” reflection activity
Positive affirmations practice using mirrors and affirmation cards
Create a Self-Portrait Gallery celebrating personal strengths
Strengths Stars craft – pupils decorate a star showing something they are proud of
Compliment Jar – pupils write or dictate kind notes for classmates to collect and share
Classroom Culture: Every child receives positive feedback; no negative self-talk or unkind remarks are permitted. The focus is on kindness, confidence, and celebrating individuality.
Assessment:
Self-assessment: “I am good at…” statements
Teacher observation of pupils’ ability to identify strengths and give compliments
Optional before/after confidence rating using a smiley scale
