This is a simple card sort where pupils have to match the different translations of f(x) to the correct graph. e.g. f(x) + 2 shows the original graph to be moved up the y-axis by two units. More able pupils can also choose their own translations of the graphs and draw them. This highlights the movements caused by:
f(x) + n
f(x+n)
nf(x)
f(xn)
and uses a simple quadratic starting point. Extension would be for them to actually write out the equations for all the graphs.
