This is for students to practice using the Speed = Distance / Time equation. There are 10 pages of questions with increasing difficulty, including rearranging the equation and converting units for speed, distance and time. Full instruction is given at each stage, so teacher input is minimal.

For automatic recall and calculation fluency

Includes:

  • Instruction on how to use the equation
  • Many scaffolded practice questions to promote speed and fluency
  • Introduction to units with instructions on use and conversion, e.g. m, km, s, min, hrs
  • Increasing level of difficulty from basic Foundation level to higher multi-step calculations

I’ve used this with great success for revision and homework, but also for classroom practice. Encourages independent work because all the instructions are contained within the text. Ideal for use in sessions where quiet independent work is needed. I’ve also used it to occupy, engage and educate pupils in quiet detention and inclusion sessions because teacher input is not needed for higher ability students and is absolutely minimal even for low ability. This resource can be used as a whole, or over a number of brief sessions. It provides sufficient practice that learning becomes embedded.
