A lesson to compliment the teaching of surface area to volume ratio, and its effect on the rate of diffusion.

This lesson takes has a maths focus of encouraging students to calculate surface area to volume ratio, and then comparing these values to the time taken for HCl to diffuse into cubes of agar gel which are soaked in phenolphthalein.

Differentiated and engaging for an otherwise dry topic.
