Want to develop a deep understanding of the numbers to 10 and the relationships between them? This is 1 long or 2 shorter lessons with supporting resources to accompany the Maths picture book ‘Ten Terrible Dinosaurs’ by Paul Stickland. The lesson is designed with early learning in mind - so beneath the lesson input on the plan you will find 3x activity task ideas to set up for guided play and exploration.

A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension, Maths and independent investigation, the children will be super engaged with the fun story and the hands-on, practical related investigations. A fun way to introduce the concept; this lesson encourages the children to count both forwards and backwards from 10, and invites them to look for patterns and relationships between the numbers. This lesson includes supporting resources found in most early learning classrooms (see below for details).

This pack contains:

  • Detailed Maths lesson plan with 3 x practical activity ideas
  • Key Comprehension Questions for read-aloud
  • 2 x Printable worksheets to accompany the activity ideas

Additional resources needed:

  • The book ‘Ten Terrible Dinosaurs’ by Paul Stickland (FYI there are YouTube readings if budget is low!)
  • Tuff tray, water bowl, water, sand/soil/coco-pops
  • 10 dinosaur toys
  • Paint or colouring pencils
