18 Files to support the teaching of work on the Heart and Circulation. Aimed at upper key stage 2 / key stage 3 but differentiated and adaptable activities make it suitable for other age groups and abilities. Includes:
1. A powerpoint that discusses the cells of the circulatory system, including how organ systems, such as the circulatory system are built from cells and tissues and the importance of respiration.
2. Teacher or revision notes covering the main points
3. 3 way differentiated activity on the differing structure of arteries, veins and capillaries. Includes colour diagrams.
4. Bone marrow and blood cells diagram.
5. Differentiated questions on the constituents of blood. Could be used for research homework or assessment.
6. Heart structure - a number of differentiated activities to suit a wide range of ages and abilities, including the naming of valves and chambers and explaining why the heart is a muscle.
7. Circulatory system diagram for labelling organs to get the idea of the scale and importance of the organ system.
8. The journey of a Red Blood Cell - storyboard activity, possibly for younger children, to understand the role of the RBC in the circulatory system.
9. Differentiated activity on the the effect of exercise on heart rate, including the use of the term respiration and therefore the link between circulatory and respiratory systems.
