Parts 1 and 2 in the Lismore flooding series indicated the cause, extent, rescue and recovery. This units deals with plans that have been mentioned to reduce the inevitable future flooding.The units includes a number of attachments with resource maps that will give students the opportunity to recognise the advantages and disadvantages of 4 plans. The summary activity on the final page provides opportunity for students to produce a future map of Lismore. This activity can only be checked with the reality that occurs in the future. Lismore, swamped by flood, will eventually be considerably altered. The present level of rainfall will occur in future years. Climatologists mention climate change. Local residents in flood-prone areas accept that the inconvenience of flooding will persist. Increasing numbers suggest that their best solution is to move out of the flood-prone areas. Time will indicate what happens.
