Practise using a calculator with powers, roots and brackets. Each question has a strip of calculator keys to fill in, in the order they are pressed, and the display to copy the answer from. 16 questions, full answers included.

Worksheet (half page, 8 questions): squares, cubes and square roots first, with boxes for the keys and the display on each, then calculations with brackets. The support then fades to spotting what goes wrong when the brackets are left out, and finding the side of a square from its area to 1 decimal place.

Further practice (half page, 8 questions): graded by difficulty, including a fraction with a sum on the top and the bottom, comparing two powers, the volume of a cube-shaped water tank, a mean worked out in one calculation, the square root of a sum, a tablecloth hanging over a table, and checking whether (a + b)² gives the same answer as a² + b².

Answers to all 16 questions are included as a separate file.

Suitable for GCSE Foundation (AQA N3) and for Key Stage 3 classes working on calculator skills.
