This activity is designed to be used with students working towards their GCSEs to help them understand the benefits of working hard for exams. Using the analogy of levelling up in a computer game it creates discussion about why lots of people are motivated to be persistent when trying to complete a level in a computer game and looks at the benefits of trying to create that level of persistence in gaining qualifications.

This presentation is meant to be used to promote discussion and to get students thinking and motivated. It would be good to use in conjunction with a visit from members of alumni who can talk about their experiences of progressing (or not progressing) and the potential benefits of working hard to fulfill potential.

There is a presentation with a double sided A4 sheet to be completed as part of the session. Should fit into an hour lesson.

This activity has been used and evaluated in a school that holds the Quality in Careers Standard and can be used as part of your stable careers program (Gatsby Benchmark 1)
