1-Hour Lesson – Fully Interactive – Ready to Teach

Dear Colleague,

Imagine the Wild West through the life of one of its most famous lawmen — Wyatt Earp. This lesson explores his life, career, and historical importance in shaping the Far West.

This lesson is the seventeenth in a unit on the American West. Students will consolidate their knowledge of key events, understand Earp’s significance, and compare him with other famous gunmen like Billy the Kid, applying their learning to exam-style questions.

All lessons in this series follow a consistent structure, supporting coherent learning and helping students track their progress:

LO 1: To order Earp’s life chronologically
LO 2: To explain his importance for the history of the Far West
LO 3: To compare his figure with other gunmen (e.g., Billy the Kid)

Learning Features:
Fully assessed tasks with opportunities for feedback
Extension activity for higher-achieving students
Resources provided at the end of the PowerPoint

This is a straightforward, knowledge-rich lesson that can run for 1 hour.

I have also created Lesson 18 on the Fort Laramie Treaty, Lesson 16 on law enforcers, and a full set of work on Law and Order. You might also be interested in my sets on Plains Indians, Settlers and Development of the Plains, Law and Order, or the full unit (24 lessons, 100 hours of planning).
