Depth 1: Coercive Acts 1774, Year 13 Unit 3 Week 2
This lesson focusses on the Intolerable Acts which were the American Patriots' term for a series of punitive laws passed by the British Parliament in 1774 after the Boston Tea party.
They were meant to punish the Massachusetts colonists for their defiance in throwing a large tea shipment into Boston harbour.
Arguably Britain’s more firm approach and increased pressure on the American colonies increased support for calls of independence.
Worksheet and PowerPoint include a number of questions for example:
Attempt one the following questions for next week:
To what extent can the Coercive Acts be seen as having been passed because of the Boston Tea Party?
OR
To what extent can the Coercive Acts be seen as having been passed because of George III reaction to the Boston tea Party?
OR
Did the reaction of George III to the Boston Tea Party inadvertently lead to him losing his 13 American colonies?
