This teacher guide supports a 90-minute lesson on planning, structuring and improving GCSE Astronomy 6-mark responses. Use the marking ladder and model answers to make Level 3 expectations explicit, then guide pupils through a one-minute three-bullet plan before each extended response. Emphasise connected scientific explanations using cause-and-effect language rather than isolated facts, and use peer or self-assessment to identify one precise improvement. Sentence starters, worked examples and fixed writing structures can be used as scaffolds and gradually withdrawn as confidence develops.
