Unit planning including four learning points which are clearly progressive and logically sequenced to meet the aims of the Science National Curriculum (2014) outcomes for Year 3 Light.

Each Learning Point follows the Rosenshine Principles and includes:

  • Knowledge Retrieval
  • I do (teacher input and modelling)
  • We do (guided practice)
  • You do (independent activity)
  • Consolidation activity

Key vocabulary has been identified, as well as key knowledge that children need to know and remember to progress to the next learning point.

Key questions have been woven though the planning to check understanding and push children to think to their challenge point.

Working Scientifically skills and types of enquiry have been implemented into each learning point.

This unit plan has been written to be fully inclusive. Focusing on the key knowledge that all pupils need to know, enables all children to take part in the lesson and achieve. However, there are also opportunities for this planning to be extended for the more able pupils and scaffolded for those children who have more significant needs.

Other plans are currently being created for all other units of science, as well as for other curriculum subjects, including for all other year groups.
