These Spelling Bee mats are designed to be used alongside the No Nonsense Spelling scheme but can be used as stand alone resources.
They are designed for Year 3, following the National Curriculum guidelines for spellings. The “golden words” are directly from the Statutory word list for Years 3 and 4. Each mat is designed to be used over a half term (approximately 6 weeks).
The way I use these mats is growing and changing each term. The aim is that they are given out at the start of each new term for children to learn both in school and at home. Over the term you will teach the spelling rules linked to the word mat (see the bottom of each mat) and periodically test the children. I chose 5 words each week to focus on, linking to the spelling rule I am teaching that week. At the end of a term all 50 words should be tested and any that need revising then filter in to the next term’s teaching.
