Year 6 Reading SATs revision - 3 mark answers

This is a detailed set of lessons supporting Year 6 pupils in learning how to answer 3 mark questions in their SATs Reading test. This is an updated set of resources ready for the 2019 SATs test, due to the change in mark scheme answers and the focus of three mark questions from the previous 2018 test.

Included:

• A 60 slide, detailed presentation which is simple to deliver.
  - There are numerous activities on the slides for pupils to complete in the class
  - There are examples of questions from previous SATs tests
  - There are modelled answers so pupils understand how to structure answers

• Activity 1: answering character impression questions
  - Pupils work on the presentation which shows how to structure character impression questions
  - Independent activities- There are 6 character extracts and pupils structure 3 mark answers using these extracts

• Activity 2: character impressions questions
  - There are three additional character descriptions so pupils can structure character impression questions, applying their knowledge from the previous lesson

• Activity 3: character feelings
  - Using the powerpoint, pupils look at how to discuss character feelings.
  - pupils complete activities on powerpoint using Harry Potter as examples
  - Pupils complete Activity 3, identifying how a character’s feelings have changed across an extract.

  • Activity 4: children answer the two questions from the last two SATs tests using the mark scheme to support them.

My children are so confident in getting these three mark answers now. When completing SATs reading tests, they want to go to the 3 mark questions first to get the most marks which is great! I hope you find it useful :-)
