This is a play script for William Shakespeare’s Macbeth, which has been written to be suitable for ages 9 to 14. Macbeth tells the story of a fierce warrior who meets three strange witches on his way home after a battle. The witches tell him that he will be King. At first Macbeth thinks they are lying but then he starts to believe the witches’ prophecies. He sends a letter to his wife, Lady Macbeth, who persuades him to kill the King and claim the throne. He does this but the couple find the guilt too much, and then the previous King’s sons come back for revenge. Elf tells the story of ‘Buddy the Elf’ who was accidentally taken to the North Pole in Santa’s sack one Christmas Eve. He stayed in the North Pole until adulthood and grew up thinking he was an elf himself. One day he found out he was a human, and decided to go and visit his biological father in New York. On arrival he wasn’t welcomed by his father until a DNA test reassured him that he was actually his son. The family grew to like Buddy, and he also found a girlfriend – but then everything changed when he fell out with his father one day and decided to leave. But as he was walking alone he heard a crash in Central Park, when he went to investigate he noticed it was his good friend, Santa. The family caught up with him and realised he had been telling the truth all along, he was in fact an elf from the North Pole. The friends and family all worked together to lift Christmas spirit and thus power Santa’s sleigh to ensure he could finish his deliveries. There are song recommendations throughout the script, with a mixture of traditional Christmas songs and modern songs. There are 20-22 speaking parts, with additional non-speaking roles too. His father’s ghost visits him and tells him that the new King, Claudius – who has married his mother – was the killer. Hamlet wants revenge and the story follows a bloody path in which he takes revenge but loses his own life, and the life of the woman he loves – Ophelia. The Santa Clause tells the story of Scott Calvin, an ordinary man who accidently causes Santa Claus to fall from his roof on Christmas Eve. Santa disappears but leaves his clothes and a note (The Santa Clause). Scott and his two young sons have to finish Santa’s deliveries for the night, and then the reindeers fly them to the North Pole. Once there, Scott is greeted by Bernard and Julie, two elves, who explain to Scott about the Santa clause, and how he must become the new Santa. Scott falls asleep and wakes in his own bed thinking it was all a dream until he starts to slowly turn into Santa. He then has to convince the one he loves that he isn’t crazy and that he is indeed the real ‘Santa Claus’.
