A board game to revise key grammar and vocabulary whilst having fun. The squares are organised according to the following categories: Grammar Vocabulary Translation False friends The teacher needs to divide the class in groups of 3-5 people and nominate someone as ‘the master’. There is a numbered answer sheet for all questions (chuleta) that the ‘master’ will use to test their classmates’ knowledge. Each number matches one card. Students roll the die and move their counter, then grab the card they have landed on and answer the question/task. If they get the question right, they stay in that square. If not, they need to go back to the previous one. There are also special squares that make pupils go forward or backwards. The winner is the person who reaches the end first. Students will need a die and counters. Un juego para repasar la gramática y el vocabulario en español mientras tus estudiantes se divierten. Spanish taboo game to drill vocabulary - theme of school/education. The resource consits of 80 cards* and a board. Each card has a word for the team to guess and a crossed word that cannot be said by the person explaining the concept. Someone from the opposite team is in charge of checking that: the ‘forbidden’ word is not said words from the same family aren’t used gestures are not made If any of the above happens, this person will shout ‘¡Para!’ (Stop!), discard the card and pick another one for the other team to carry on. Pupils can also pass if they don’t know the word or how to describe it. The teams advance as many squares as words they guess within the time given in each round. On the board, pupils can land into three different types of squares: pink and blue squares: nothing happens if they land on these ones. They just wait for the next turn. ‘doble de tiempo’: their team gets double time on the next turn. -‘intercambiad posiciones’: both teams swap positions, no matter where they are at that point. The time given to teams to try and guess as many words as possible is totally up to the teacher depending on the group’s ability and confidence with the topic. *There are also 20 aditional empty cards that can be filled in with any specific vocabulary. El tiempo dado para que adivinen las palabras lo decide el profesor basándose en las necesidades y destrezas del grupo. *Hay 20 tarjetas vacías adicionales que pueden rellenarse con el vocabulario que se desee.

A while ago we had the opportunity to participate in a Webinar about the need to decolonize the curriculum and we met Maud Waret (you can find her on Twitter as @profprofmfl). Listening to her was extremely inspiring, and from that moment on have been trying to make our lessons and resources as inclusive as we can. Although we have a long way to go, from our position of privilege we strive to make all students feel represented and included. Our classes are becoming more diverse, and that is something we should celebrate. The vast majority of textbooks and resources that we know about the topic of descriptions do not include enough vocabulary to allow all students to describe themselves, their friends or their family. And that’s why we felt the need to create this resource (thanks Maud for your advice!). At the moment we only have it in Spanish, but we would like to do it in other languages as well, would you be interested? Hace un tiempo tuvimos la oportunidad de participar en un webminario sobre la necesidad de descolonizar el currículum educativo y conocimos a Maud Waret (podéis encontrarla en Twitter como @profprofmfl). Escucharla fue extremadamente inspirador, y a partir de aquel momento nos pusimos manos a la obra para intentar hacer nuestras clases y recursos más inclusivos. Aunque nos queda mucho camino por recorrer, desde nuestra posición de privilegio nos esforzamos para que todos los estudiantes se sientan representados e incluidos. La gran mayoría de libros de texto y recursos que conocemos para el tema de las descripciones no incluyen suficiente vocabulario como para permitir que los estudiantes puedan describirse a ellos mismos, a sus amigos o a sus familiares.
