With this unit your students will have sound knowledge of Ratio and Proportion. The combination of print-n-go sheets and task cards will enable you to teach and reinforce conceptual content. SECTIONS INCLUDED: ♦ Cover for student booklet if compiling all sheets ♦ Simplifying Ratios: Whole Numbers: 28 sums ♦ Simplifying Ratios QR Code Option: 27 QR codes ♦ Simplifying Ratios: Decimal Numbers: 20 sums ♦ Simplifying Ratios: Decimal Numbers QR Code Option: 18 QR codes ♦ Simplifying Ratios: Fractions: 18 sums ♦ Ratio Problems: Conversions (m, cm, cents, seconds, minutes, grams, mg, kilograms, mm, cm, ml, l, m, km) : 12 sums ♦ Ratio Problems: QR Code Option: Conversions : 9 QR Codes ♦ Ratio Word Problems Print-n-go Sheets: 18 problems ♦ Ratio Word Problems (colour) Task Cards: 24 Task Cards ♦ Ratio Word Problems (blackline) Task Cards: 24 Task Cards ****************************************************************** QR CODES Students have the option of solving ratio sums by scanning the QR Codes. They will need a QR Code Scanner to do this. You may download i-nigma for free. Place the QR Code Cards around the classroom for added fun. This activity allows for movement and builds student enthusiasm. 24 COLOUR AND BLACKLINE TASK CARDS WHAT’S INCLUDED: ♦ Problem Cards 1-4: Simplifying Ratios Whole Numbers (with two given subjects) ♦ Problem Cards 5-8: Simplifying Ratios Whole Numbers (with three given subjects) ♦ Problem Cards 9-12: Simplifying Ratios (Fractions) ♦ Problem Cards 13-16: Solving (cooking) problems involving cross-multiplication ♦ Problem Cards 17-20: Solving problems where the total amount is given and students use the method of cross-multiplication to find one part of the amount. ♦ Problem Cards 21-24: Solving problems where one part of the total amount is given and students have to find the other part of the amount on the basis of a given ratio. SUGGESTED USE: Prior to have students using the task cards, I familiarise them with the type of problems and method of solving. There are 4 problems for each problem type. For example, cards 1-4 feature the same method of problem solving. I demonstrate the method of working out each problem type on the board. I generally use cards 1, 5, 11, 13, 17 and 20 that feature all six types. After instruction, the cards are taped to the classroom walls. I place similar problem types together. Students walk around and solve. This alleviates the monotony of sitting in one place and solving. Once all students have solved the 24 problems, we discuss the answers as a class. You may project the answer key on the whiteboard and explain steps involved in problem solving. I have students glue the blackline version of the 24 task cards (on 2 sheets) in their notebooks as reference when discussing answers.

With this resource, your students will be able to simplify ratios that are fractions by writing each fraction with a common denominator to work with simplification of whole numbers. Also included is a fun Scavenger Hunt to reinforce taught content. This resource will provide your students with a thorough understanding on the concept of simplifying ratios that are fractions. The templates are designed to be kid-friendly with cool kids clip-art and pleasant-to-read font to motivate students. Material that could otherwise prove daunting is presented in a simple easy-to-understand way. SECTIONS INCLUDED: ♦ Booklet Cover featuring a brief overview of concepts learned ♦ Anchor Charts x 2 (colour and blackline) on Simplifying Ratios that are fractions ♦ Simplifying Ratios that are Fractions: 24 problems ♦ Simplifying Ratios that are Fractions Scavenger Hunt: 12 Cards (colour and blackline) and 2 recording sheets ♦ 12 blackline Scavenger Hunt Cards on a single page for students to glue in their notebooks as reference. ♦ Teaching Aid Sheet on Multiples of Numbers 2-10 SCAVENGER HUNT: My students really enjoyed this activity – I’m sure your students will too! I cut out and laminated the twelve Scavenger Hunt Cards. I then tacked them to the wall with Blu-Tac. Spread them out or hide them for more fun. ♦ Students may start with any card to begin with. ♦ They write the ratio to solve on their recording sheets and look for the answer (top) on another card. ♦ The name of the picture of the card where the answer is found is written below the answer on the Recording Sheet. ♦ Students then solve the next question at the bottom of the card where they found the answer and look for the answer again on another card. ♦All questions are solved this way till the question of the last card loops back to the answer of the first card. **Clear visual instructions further provided in file. The Scavenger Hunt is an effective way for students to check their working and arrive at the right answer in order to solve the next problem. I am confident your students will have sound mathematical knowledge and understanding of simplifying ratios that are fractions after completion of this unit. All the best for the academic year!

This resource will teach your students to simplify ratios that have decimal numbers by multiplying by the powers of ten to work with simplification of whole numbers. Also included is a fun Math Lib activity to reinforce taught content. This resource will provide your students with a thorough understanding on the concept of simplifying ratios of decimal numbers. The templates are designed to be kid-friendly with cool kids clip-art and pleasant-to-read font to motivate students. Material that could otherwise prove daunting is presented in a simple easy-to-understand way. SECTIONS INCLUDED: ♦ Booklet Cover (for student) ♦ Anchor Chart (colour and blackline) on Simplifying Ratios with decimal numbers. ♦ Simplifying decimal number ratios: 33 problems ♦ Simplifying decimal number ratios (math LIB) Recording Sheet. ♦ Simplifying decimal number ratios (math LIB) 10 Task Cards. (2 on a page) colour and Blackline ♦ Simplifying decimal number ratios (math LIB) 10 blackline Task Cards on a single page for students to glue in their notebooks as reference. MATH LIB ACTIVITY: My students really enjoyed this activity – I’m sure your students will too! I cut out and laminated the ten task cards. I then tacked them to the wall with Blu-Tac (this way cards don’t get lost if they were left on students’ desks – it also gets students up and moving), Students then write the ratio to solve on their recording sheet, simplify it and look for their answer from the list of options. They write the word against the selected option in the ‘fill in the blanks’ section. The end result is a spooky message. You will find that this is a far more interesting way of answering a multiple-choice question and checking students’ answers. The cards target differentiation. I am confident your students will have sound mathematical knowledge and understanding of simplifying decimal-number ratios after completion of this unit. All the best for the academic year!
