Squares, cubes and roots
This lesson runs through squaring, cubing, square rooting and cube rooting.
At each point it covers the history and background of the topic, and also the key skills associated.
This is a non-calculator lesson and is based around them learning and being familiar with the first 15 square numbers and 8 cube numbers.
There are two embedded activities based around the above, and included is my pixel colouring activity on squares, cubes and roots.
There is also a challenge activity based on Waring’s problem for cubes.

Squares, cubes and roots pixel colouring
An activity to test knowledge of squaring, cubing, square rooting and cube rooting. Pupils need to answer the questions and then colour all the corresponding squares the assigned colours. Answers are included.

I would normally teach them in the above order. These lessons provide enough material for at least an hour on each. All lessons have full answers and are designed to be challenging (and non-calculator). My students enjoy learning the history behind subjects and why we learn them, so the lessons incorporate this where possible. All lessons include full activities and stretch and challenge possibilities. Topics covered include:

HCF and LCM
This resource is designed to be used after my lessons on divisibility tests and product of primes. This full lesson covers finding the HCF and LCM using prime factorisation. It includes some written problems and also finding HCF and LCM when numbers are given as product of primes. The lesson is fully animated and contains solutions throughout.
Data Collection Revision Crossword (Unit 1 Edexcel Statistics and Mechanics)
This is a quick crossword which tests students knowledge of the key definitions covered in Unit 1 of Statistics (Edexcel A Level Maths Yr 1).
It covers key definitions such as Census and Population but also covers the units of measurement in the large data set. Also covered are the types of sampling (random and non-random)
Could be used as quick and easy revision activity or plenary at the end of the unit.

Column Addition Decode the Joke
This resource was created for a low ability class to revise and consolidate column addition, it builds in difficulty to include carrying, and also includes questions where they need to change the horizontal sums into a column sum.
Measures of location and spread large data set questions
I have created some questions based around the skills learnt in Chapter 2 of Statistics (Edexcel Yr 1 Statistics and Mechanics). However I felt that my students would benefit with more practice on working with the large data set. As such all of these questions are working with data from the Large Data Set provided by Edexcel, to ensure that they build familiarity with the data.
