Ambitious Vocabulary Building Placemat Worksheets GCSE Creative Writing Exam Prep Pack 1

(0)
A set of 10 ambitious vocabulary worksheets / placemats. They were created for students preparing for their GCSE exams but could be introduced in KS3 for higher ability students. The vocabulary in this set includes: contentious, emphatic, destructive, lavish, amiable, ambiguous, remorseful, ominous, exhilaration and irresponsible. There is also a blank copy of the worksheet so that you can select vocabulary for your classes. I found that students struggled to recall a lot of the vocabulary we spoke about in the classroom so put together these worksheets so students can fully engage with new and ambitious vocabulary and are much more likely to remember it. I chose vocabulary that can help with academic writing in both GCSE English Language and GCSE English Literature and creative writing. They work really well as a starter activity and I often have them on the desks as students enter the classroom - once students have completed a few with guidance, they get straight to work on them without as much input from the teacher. They are also great to have for students who finish work quickly.

20 Word / Logic Puzzles. There is a mixture of difficulty levels and it is easy to differentiate - one or more of the group titles can be given to make the puzzles easier. The puzzles cover many topics and trivia so they are suitable for any subject. I have also used them in form. Great for group work or for independent work. I have some cut out and in envelopes ready for students who complete work quickly. Students can note their answers down on paper or on blank answer grids (included). Some students like the words to be cut out so they can move the words around into different groups. Set includes: 20 puzzles, answer sheet, instructions for students, tips for teachers and a page of blank answer grids (best done in pencil if writing on).

Shakespeare Life and Audience / Theatre Context PowerPoint

PowerPoint presentation about Shakespeare’s life, his audience and Elizabethan theatres. 8 slides with info, a quick quiz, videos and tasks. Includes objectives that you can amend as you wish. A great way to introduce context to any Shakespeare play. Ideal for KS3 / GCSE / A-Level. My aim was to get my students to consider how Shakespeare thought about his audience and how it would be performed when he was writing the play.
