This resource contains two versions of the same booklet (at foundation and higher level). Each of the booklet contains extensive translation practice (from Spanish into English) covering all themes and topics of the new Spanish GCSE course (based on the AQA specification). The translations include references to a variety of tenses (present, preterite, imperfect, present perfect, conditional, future), as well as a wide range of complex structures (negatives, comparatives, conditional clauses…). The booklets can also be found separately on these links: Foundation: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-spanish-to-english-translations-foundation-11958634 Higher: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-spanish-to-english-translations-higher-11958629

New Spanish A Level - Aspects of Hispanic Society: fact file (Paper 3, speaking exam).

This resource contains a lot of factual information about Spanish society, focusing on the three topics that cover the sub-theme Aspects of Hispanic Society in the new Spanish A Level course (Traditional and Modern Values, Cyberspace and Equal Rights). I wrote this resource to help my students revise for their upcoming speaking exam (Paper 3), specifically to ensure that they include enough information to score well in AO4 of the paper. The file also includes an overview of the course and of Paper 3.

New Spanish A Level: Paper 3. Theme 3: Multiculturalism in the Hispanic world. Discussion cards.

A 38 page booklet to help prepare Spanish A Level students for Paper 3 (speaking test). The booklet focuses on the Theme Multiculturalism in the Hispanic world, and it contains 18 discussion cards covering Immigration (6 cards), Racism (6 cards) and Integration (6 cards). Each section is followed by a list of 20 questions to encourage the students to further explore the issues covered in the cards. The cards contain (quite a lot) of factual information about the theme (a lot more than the sample cards from AQA) and three questions, the first one always being “How do you react to the information on this card?”). The aim of presenting the cards like this is to provide the students with a lot of ideas on what to say about the theme, as well as making them more aware that they always have to discuss the information printed on the card (AO2 and AO4). The booklet also includes a student-friendly overview of the new specification, an explanation of the requirements of Paper 3, the assessment objectives and the mark scheme for both part one (discussion if a sub-theme) and part two (presentation and discussion of the individual research project) of the paper. Finally, the booklet also contain three pages of useful language for the test.

Spanish GCSE - Grammar booklets (cuadernos de gramática). Perfect for home learning.

This resource contains two different versions of my grammar booklet. The content of both booklets is basically the same, but while the full version is 62 pages long, the reduced version is more printing-budget friendly, with 37pages. Both versions of the booklet contain a very comprehensive summary of the grammar required to succeed in the new GCSE course and numerous activities for the students. Each booklet is divided in three sections, one for each theme of the new GCSE, and withing each of those there are two parts, one dedicated to verbs and one dedicated to all the other lexical categories. Each entry of the booklet focuses on one aspect of grammar, with a brief explanation of how to use the structure that is being covered, the rules and exceptions that need to be taken into account, and a variety of examples. This is always followed by an “Ahora practica” section with activities for the students to complete. Whenever possible, the examples and activities match the theme that the specific structure has been included under (e.g., the majority of examples and activities used to study the present tense will be related to the topics from theme 1 - relationships, technology, leisure and festivals). A free sample of this resource (the section on ser and estar) can be found here: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-grammar-ser-and-estar-11939670 And the final pages of the booklet, with the verb tables: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-spanish-gcse-verb-tables-11940354 Finally, each version of the booklet can be found separately in the following links: Reduced version: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/gcse-spanish-grammar-booklet-cuaderno-de-gram-tica-11939892 Full version: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/spanish-gcse-grammar-booklet-cuaderno-de-gram-tica-11939611

Spanish GCSE writing practice: 90-word and 150-word questions. Perfect for home learning.

Spanish GCSE writing practice: 90-word and 150-word questions. Perfect for home learning.

(1)
This resource contains two booklets, one of them including twenty-four 150-word questions to revise the three themes of the new GCSE course (AQA specification), and a similar one consisting of twenty-four 90-word questions. In each booklet there are eight questions for each of the three themes of the course (Identity and culture, Local, national, international and global areas of interest and Current and future study and employment), and two questions for each of the topics in each theme. The 150-word question is part of the higher writing exam, and each question contains two bullet points that the students are expected to cover; the bullet points are written to resemble the ones found in the 2018 paper and those in the sample questions provided by AQA. At least one of the bullet points in each question prompts the students to refer to either the past or the future, and several questions ask the students to write their “recommendations”. The booklet also contains a copy of the mark scheme for the 150 word question and an overview of the themes and topics. The 90-word questions include four bullet points that the students are prompted to cover, and they explicitly require them to include references to three time frames and opinions (as per the AQA mark scheme). When possible, one of the bullet points starts with ‘qué hiciste’, a question which appears in many of the AQA samples and that some students often fail to understand. The booklet also contains a copy of the mark scheme. This resource can be used as part of everyday teaching, as end of unit assessment, for revision purposes and as an easy way of setting useful homework.
