This lesson is the fourth in a scheme of work on GCSE skills - however, it can easily stand alone. This lesson allows students to study a section of The Kite Runner, and analyse any techniques they find. At the end, students will produce a question 2 style response.

This lesson will cover Language Paper 1, Question Two skills. The students will be building brilliant vocabulary, identifying various language techniques, and analysing a section of Jaws for implicit meaning.

This lesson introduces students to Paper 1, Question 1. This lesson also allows students to practice their identification and creative writing skills, as they write their own sample Question Ones (complete with sources) for each other.

This lesson is on Paper 1 Question 2 - it introduces students to the question, and includes a fun extract from Stephen King’s IT for analysis.

This SOW has a focus on the study of tragedy. Students will combine analysis, inference, planning and practical skills to eventually devise their own monologues. This SOW includes weekly low stakes quizzes, a final mid-term multiple choice and written assessment (which is self and peer marked) and a teacher-ready marksheet for the performance in week 5.

This lesson allows students to find their role within a group, and also choose their level of learning and contribution towards the scriptwriting process. By the end of the lesson, students should show the class a ‘sneak peek’ of their future performance piece.

This lesson allows students to work within the skill-set and level that they are comfortable at. It teaches students to work together in creating a final performance piece (a scene with a genre of your choosing - here I’ve chosen tragicomedy).

This is the third week in a SOW combines both Media and English in order for students to construct a film review during their assessment week. In this scheme, students have the chance to explore elements of cinematography, scriptwriting and analysis of ambiguity and sensationalism in film. Lesson One: What is sensationalism? Students can use this planning sheet and also the interview Q&A sheet to work towards writing an article. This could work in the context of any lesson.
