This new series replaces the traditional KS3 assessment criteria (APP or AF's) with NEW GCSE Assessment Objectives (AOs) However, that does not mean that the creativity and imagination need to be a thing of the past! In this new series of units, Key Stage Three pupils are introduced to NEW GCSE English Language Skills in creative and imaginative ways to build foundations and continuity for pupils as they progress through the key stages. The series is designed for teaching to pupils in years 7 or 8 but could also be used as an introductory GSCE foundation unit for Year 9 & 10 groups depending on ability. The FIRST UNIT in the series(AO1,) uses engaging Roald Dahl texts, films and illustrations to fully introduce, explore and assess the first assessment objective with pupils. The SECOND UNIT in the series (AO2 LANGUAGE) uses engaging extracts from Roald Dahl's fiction and non fiction texts, including 'The Witches,' 'Going Solo' and 'Boy', to fully introduce, explore and assess this crucial assessment objective with pupils. The THIRD UNIT in the series (AO2 STRUCTURE) uses engaging extracts from Roald Dahl's fiction and non fiction texts, including 'James and the Giant Peach,' and 'Boy', to fully introduce, explore and assess this crucial assessment objective with pupils. The FOURTH UNIT in the series (AO3 COMPARE) uses engaging extracts from Roald Dahl's non fiction texts, including 'Going Solo' and 'Boy', illustrations associated with Roald Dahl's writing and engaging videos (included in the power point) to fully introduce, explore and assess this crucial GCSE skill and assessment objective with pupils. IMPORTANT NOTE: Tailored to AQA spec, however, easily adaptable to new OCR, Edexcel & WJEC specifications. AO1 - 6 and the skills are universal across all exam boards. An Inspector Calls, Reading Unit (Full Play) - NEW GCSE English Literature (3 - 4 weeks Teaching)

A Complete 3-4 week teaching unit to accompany the reading of An Inspector Calls in preparation for the Modern Texts component of NEW GCSE English Literature Specifications (first examination 2017). Included in and suitable for teaching the Modern Text/Post 1914 Prose components of the AQA, OCR and WJEC courses. This organised series of 11-13 lessons (depending on pace of delivery/ability) breaks the play down into 7 manageable key phases with engaging videos, images and mp3 recordings (all included) used to hook pupils into the core themes and message before reading/teaching each particular phase and/or to reinforce understanding and encourage pupils to challenge their initial interpretations after reading as well as to build connections as the unit develops. Targeted reading focusses and questions ensure a thorough and focussed reading that guides pupils into making their own interpretations which is supported by an understanding of the writer's context, but more importantly their own context! Model responses are used to support this throughout. Likewise, carefully placed discussion points, videos, images and guided annotations facilitate this. FREE ENRICHMENT LESSON: Additionally, a lesson is included which takes advantage of the comparable messages, purposes and methods in John Donne's 'No Man is an Island' to develop pupils unseen poetry comparison skills for the poetry component of NEW English Literature Specifications, comparing the poem to the inspector's final speech, treating this as if it were a poem. As a footnote, it is important to say that this unit has been a complete pleasure to develop as it is a privilege to be addressing these vital messages with our young people today! Whilst tailored to the New AQA specification (Paper 2 Section A: Modern texts) this course is easily adaptable to meet the requirements of OCR and WJEC specifications.
