I made a reading test for students to practice their skills. I wrote my own texts and based the questions of the new post 2019 Edexcel reform of the level 2 functional skills. The texts are in an editable word document, I put the questions and answers on a power point but I also included a copy of the questions on a word document. 15 questions in total same as the exam students are expected to spend 75 minutes on this, same as the exam. All resources are fully editable so if there’s anything you don’t like it can be fixed easily but I tried to represent every question that the students may face in the exam.

A six page workbook that looks at the six main structural techniques (Narrative voice, flashback, perspective shift, cliffhangers, change of focus and paragraphing) used in the AQA GCSE English language exam. A technique is discussed, students are shown an example and asked to write their own (Q5 practice) and then analyse it (Q3 practice)

An activity book for students to practice the skills they need to pass the exam. Looks at identifying all the techniques language and structure for paper 1, looks at writing PEACE paragraphs, comparing texts and creative writing activities. I made this after teaching this course for three years upon getting students feedback on what they struggled on. A lesson on writing descriptively or narratively, can be used as home learning or be taught as a lesson. Good for use as an introduction to writing creatively. Glossary and worksheet included. Covers: Metaphors Similes Personification word classes.

A booklet designed for students to create their own superhero and and quiz to do afterwards. Should take about two hours in total.

A brief introduction into question 3 paper 2 showing the students how to answer the question and has a sample question for the students to answer, comes with a writing frame and some scaffolding. Made primarily for home learning but can be used by a teacher.

A 19 page booklet looking at developing student’s skills in order to achieve higher marks in the AQA GCSE English paper 2 exam. This booklet looks at the major skills reuired to pass the exam and the questions they relate to. Contents: Identifying language techniques Inference Language analysis Expressing your own opinion All sections come with model answers. The booklet should keep students occupied for many hours and help their understanidng of the exam because of its design students can complete this by themsleves and check their answers themselves for independent learning. This was designed from a few problem areas and my students actually asked me to make this for them to get rid of the common difficulties they face in paper 2.

A lesson based on the theme of being more thoughtful with Joaquin Phoenix’s Oscar speech. The lesson shows students what the exam will be like as well as gets them to write a sample answer for question 5 paper 2 and looks at language analysis. Functional skills lesson on punctuation, paragraphing, writing in different tenses and using this to write a review. Comes with a reading comprehension, a discussion and a recap of a spelling technique I used in a previous lessons. Lesson is complete with sample answers, extension activities and peer marking for the final written piece. Punctuation covered: commas, full stops, exclamation marks, apostrophes and possessive apostrophes.

Functional skills lesson to prepare the students for sitting the writing exam. Looks at fact and opinion/ understanding the wording of the questions, the spelling rules and practice of Cial and Tial suffixes and the Sion and Tion rule. Also looks at using adjectives (for writing question 1) and using information from a text in the form of buying a car (writing question 2). Should last over two hours. A lesson designed to help students become more clear and concise in their writing. Looks at how to make a text more persuasive and is a nice introduction into using persuasive language techniques (direct address, rule of three, powerful adjectives and rhetorical questions). Goes into how techniques would be used for certain text types. It should last approximately two hours. Fully differentiated with extension activities. KS2 adaptable

A revision lesson going in depth in how to use context to add greater depth to an answer looks at question 3, 4 and 5 should take two hours. Is themed on the police and our rights as citizens, its a really nice lesson for discussions and for pushing students to get the higher grades. GCSE AQA Revision looking at questions 3, 4 and 5 for paper 1. AO4 Lesson objectives based on Blooms Taxonomy, extension activities and model answers included, can last between two hours to three depending on the ability of the class. Looks at Structural techniques, Language analysis and Creative writing.
