This lesson builds students up to naming compounds made from non-metals and metals, which end in-ide and then moves on to naming compounds which contain a non-metal, metal and oxygen which end in -ate. This worked well for a low ability year 11 class, but scaffolding could be taken out to provide more challenge. A worksheet is included and can be differentiated accordingly to test the understanding of different learners,

This assembly starts by getting student to think about new years resolutions they made in 2020 and probably failed at. It then goes through a more sustainable long term 5 year plan and what this might look like for students. It lasts around 15 minutes and is a great assembly for the start of the new year. It is aimed at all secondary year groups and worked well when I performed it, especially when students got involved. Save yourself some time this Christmas and grab a bargain. Thanks Jonny

I used this assembly last September with my school assembly and it went down really well with the students really captivated by the story of David Phillips who managed to collected 1.25million air miles by buying puddings (look the story up on google - worth a read). Essentially, the powerpoint which lasts around 15minutes goes through David's story but then uses it as an analogy for "life miles" which they collect when they attend school, it goes through how to collect more " life miles" and shows you what you can buy with them which is essentially choices like university, dream jobs, travelling the world. Save yourself some time and effort and get this ready to use off the shelf assembly. Thanks for looking Jon

This assembly grabs the students attention with the first slide asking them to vote whether or not school should start at 10am instead of 8.50. The assembly goes on to look at the arguments for and against and the current research that is going on in the uk at the moment with 100 test school. I went on to tell them that unfortunately we haven't been selected for the trial but its findings could impact us. I then went on to say that until then they should take note of the sleep scientists top tips for a good night sleep which includes the science of blue light from mobile phone screens and its effect on the sleep hormone melatonin. This powerpoint lasts around 15minutes. Enjoy.

In this lesson students are given a range of cards with select information about different elements, just as Mendeleev had. They are then set the task of arranging the cards in anyway they see fit. They then look at how Mendeleev arranged them and used them to make predictions about missing elements which the students then do. The lesson concludes with a six mark question on how the periodic table is arranged. Save yourself some time and grab a bargain.

In this lesson students apply their knowledge of calculating empirical formula by reacting known masses of magnesium with unknown masses of oxygen to make a known mass of magnesium oxide which they can then use along with relative atomic masses to calculate the ratio of oxygen to magnesium and in turn the empirical formula of magnesium oxide. I printed these cards of for students with corresponding pages in the Edexcel additional science book (purple one) and got them to answer the questions accordingly and in turn making their own flash cards. They then whole punched the corners and treasury tagged them together. Great little revision resource.

Based on the new GCSE spec, this lesson worked really well for a year 9 low ability class. It is heavily scaffolded and because of this enabled each student to reach the two objectives of the lesson which were: Core- Identify vector and scalar quantities Challenge- Explain the difference between a scalar and vector quantity It included plenty of on the go assessment to check where each student is at different parts of the lesson. There is a built in worksheet (see cover picture) that can be built upon throughout the whole lesson and means students can work independently a lot of the time. This lesson encourages students to start thinking about continuous and discontinuous data with lots of concrete examples. They plot a human bar graph of favourite colours and then carry out a small experiment investigating how the volume of vinegar added to baking soda alters the amount of foam produced. This easily lasts a double lesson (100minutes) and is a really fun way to get students engaged with graphs. Save yourself some time and grab a bargain.

This is a fully differentiated lesson which assesses where students are in real time during the lesson, encouraging them to reflect on their own practice and decide on what worksheet they will need to complete. The lower ability sheet is for completion with the teacher and gets students to continue with a pattern and then decide on the pattern to pattern rule and frames it enough for them to create nth term expressions. This lesson is simply a step by step guide to calculating momentum and worked really well with my low ability year 11 class.
