CVC Words Phonics Activity: Short 'u' Words
**Fun, hands-on activity for teaching children to read CVC words. Children search for and read consonant-vowel-consonant words using the ‘show me’ window! The show me charts focus on the short ‘u’ vowel and are perfect for different levels of ability.
This activity can be used for a whole-class introduction, as a guided group activity or in your literacy area. Just print and laminate. To make the Show Me windows, laminate and cut around the frame, cut out the rectangular box in the middle and then place over a chart to search for words! Alternatively, you could use the black and white versions of the charts as ‘wordsearch’ printables. **

Phonics Blending Game - CVC Words
**Teach your class to read consonant-vowel-consonant words with this fun pack!
Children should say the sounds as they drive their car past the trees and then blend them together to read the word.
Road mats with the following words are provided (one word per mat):
Middle ‘a’ sound: dad, bag, jam, fan, cat
Middle ‘e’ sound: bed, leg, hen, ten, net
Middle ‘i’ sound: lid, pig, him, fin, sit
Middle ‘o’ sound: job, rod, dog, mop, hot
Middle ‘u’ sound: cub, bug, sum, run, nut
Each word is also written on a car flashcard (colour copy and B&W copy). These could be used for assessment purposes or children could match them to the correct road mats.**
