I am a teacher of engineering with nearly 10 years experience. I endeavour to produce a range of resources that will help students to really engage with engineering as a subject and later, a profession. My resources are always produced to make it as easy as possible for you to change, edit add and remove content, or you can simply use the resources as they are. My main focus is to give you all of the information you will need to teach a subject, with as little fuss as possible.

Engineering Drawing introductory activities

(0)
Basic, low level activities designed to give students confidence in reading and producing their own drawings in engineering. Starter activity is for students to identify the correct views. Drawing activities are for the students to convert isometric to orthographic projection, using guide lines - (you may need to adjust the contrast of your printer before printing, I had a small issue but it was fixed with a bit of adjustment) Feel free to chop, change and paste whatever you like to suit your own style.

Measurement Tolerances

(0)
A powerpoint presentation that shows how measurements are tolerance in engineering, technology and design. A few questions are included in the slides but more can be easily made by using the examples as a template. Used at the start of engineering measuring activities or before you introduce students to a practical activities in an engineering or design environment. Feel free to cut, chop and paste any of the slides as you see fit for your own purposes.

Health and Safety - Signs quiz - Revision Presentation

(0)
Slides that test students recall of the main safety signs that are displayed in every aspect of life. The main signs are: Prohibitive Mandatory Warning First aid Safety These questions are ready to go right out of the box but might also be useful in many other subject areas. You can quite easily change the questions and answers if you wanted to use it for other areas of work. Please feel free to Cut, paste or change anything you wish to meet your needs.

Limits and Fits - Engineering Measurement

(0)
40 Slide powerpoint resource detailing the theory behind Limits and Fits used in engineering, design and manufacture. Age range of resource - 14 - 19 (GCSE to Sixth Form) Studying BTEC/City and Guilds/AS/A level Ideal for students learning topics like measurement, engineering, technology and other technical subjects. Slides have animations to emphasise the functions of certain fits, which provide a visual appeal to the presentation. Feel free to cut, chop and paste the slides as you see fit in order to meet your own needs.

Plastics - forms, properties and manufacturing processes

(0)
Lots of information about how plastics are formed, what they are used for and what they are made from. Designed for use with 6th form students - but if theres anything that I need from the presentation I generally cut it out and use for a specific lesson. Feel free to cut and paste anything you want from the presentation to meet your needs.
Safety signs starters

Safety signs starters

(0)
Starter activities used to teach low level (1 and 2) engineering students about the different signs in use. I found it best to have a workshop available with all appropriate signs being used, for the students to use as research. Feel free to cut, paste and chop anything to suit your own needs.
CAD (Solidedge) Introduction

CAD (Solidedge) Introduction

(1)
Activities that are designed to ease students into 3D modelling on Solidedge. Starts very basic but increases in difficulty throughout. Requires a teacher with a fair level of Solidedge experience. Feel free to cut, paste and chop anything you want in order to suit your own style.
Engineering Drawing/CAD activities

A set of activities used as stretch and challenge for more able students when working on CAD (Solidedge). Could be used for other types of CAD, or even manual technical drawing classes. Feel free to cut, paste and chop anything you like to suit your teaching style.
Linear Measurement

Linear Measurement

(0)
A 22 slide presentation on the subject of linear measurement. The content focuses on the engineering/technology/design side of measurement but will be appropriate for students of all areas that simply need a lesson in measuring. Ideal for a cover lesson if a teacher is away from work. Covers many types of measuring from using rulers through to micrometers, vernier callipers and laser measurement. Feel free to cut, chop and paste any of the slides and any of the content/design to suit your own purposes.

Health and safety - Manual handling

(0)
PPT presentation about manual handling methods focused towards engineering activities. There are no additional files as the ones I used are freely available on the HSE website, though there are several single/group work activities that can inspire students to put thought into what they are doing. Used to teach students in preparation for the City & Guilds level 3 in engineering externally assessed exam, with excellent results in previous years. Though it has been made with engineering students in mind, the nature of the subject make it ideal for pretty much any subject. As with all other health and Safety subjects, don't forget to check out the HSE website - that place really has helped me to teach health and safety over the years. Please feel free to copy, paste and chop down any part of the resource you want.

8 Resources designed for the teaching of BTEC and City & Guilds Engineering qualifications. Each document covers some of the specifications for a range of engineering information, this information can then be cut down into activities or used as part of your wider engineering teaching. Please feel free to cut, chop and paste anything in these resources to suit your teaching needs.
Measuring using micrometers and Vernier Callipers

Measuring using micrometers and Vernier Callipers

(0)
A worksheet introducing students to measurement using engineering tools. First section describes the methods used to measure using the micrometer, the second section describes measurement using the vernier scale. Both sections are complete with some sample activities to test the students knowledge. I would use the worksheet along with the actual measuring tools so the students can handle the equipment as they work, this will reinforce their learning. It will be helpful for a teacher who already knows how to read both scales to teach as it will require some explanation to support the work.
Drilling area posters

Drilling area posters

(0)
Posters made to occupy the walls around pillar drills. They show drillbit geometries, clamping methods and all three mention safety. All posters are on A3 paper and look great when laminated. Feel free to change anything that you don't like or wish to adjust.
Technical drawing activities
stevegowansstevegowans

Technical drawing activities

(1)
Tech drawing powerpoint that starts by showing the different types of line involved in engineering drafting and moves on to an animation that explains the methods behind drawing circles in isometric projection. Following this are several activities that use the technique, advancing in complexity. You could easily produce a handout from the frames in the slides, allowing for differentiation in ability. Feel free to cut, paste and change anything to suit your own style.
4 Engineering Based Starter Activities

4 Engineering Based Starter Activities

(0)
4 individual Starter activities for Engineering/DT courses. Suitable for year 10 up, these starters are a good way of engaging students and assessing prior knowledge. I have used them on both BTEC and City and Guilds engineering courses. Ready to use - just print them and away you go. Areas covered - Machining, (Resistant) Materials, Material properties and manual handling (health and safety)

BTEC Level 1/2 - Unit 1 - The Engineered World Revision Booklet

(0)
Booklet that covers a wide range of the specification for the BTEC unit 1 - The Engineered World. All activities are fully answered already - before issuing to students you might want to spend bit of time deleting the answers to produce a student copy. I have done it this way to give you freedom of choice as to the information you leave in the book. Feel free to chop and change any of the activities that you wish to deliver as individual activities.
