About Our School
Cheam High School is an 11 - 19 co-educational comprehensive academy with around 2000 students including 500 Sixth Formers. It has a strong reputation in the locality and is heavily oversubscribed with approximately 1400 applicants for 300 places each year. The school converted to an academy in 2011 and is part of the Cheam Academies Network (CAN) Trust.
The school has been judged as “outstanding” by Ofsted in all areas (2015) following “outstanding” judgements in 2010 and 2007. This grade has resulted from the high quality of provision offered across a range of areas. These strengths include:
• Curriculum offered with its broad choice and focus on students' interests and aspirations
• Quality of teaching and support for learning
• Excellent facilities
• Pastoral Care
• Personal and Social Development of students
• Leadership and management within the school
The school also received an “outstanding” judgement for the Mathematics subject inspection carried out in February 2012.
We are very proud of our school and the children and young adults that study here. Our students are excellent ambassadors for the school. They develop into confident and articulate young adults who are committed to preparing for their future career and study choices. Examination results show their excellent progress (Summer 2016: 74% 5+ A*-C at GCSE, 63% graded B or higher at A level and vocational level 3). We have a high number of students who choose to stay on in the sixth form whilst others secure appropriate courses or apprenticeships with a vocational focus. At post 16, approximately 200 students progress to university each year.
Our staff are dedicated to providing students with excellent support. This relates to academic progress as well as extracurricular experiences and pastoral care. Our staff are well qualified and the school supports them to share best practice so that our standard of teaching and support is both high quality and also continually developing.
Significant investment has been made in recent years in our excellent facilities including:
• Whole school ICT network with interactive whiteboards in every classroom; five specialist ICT rooms plus 30 further cross-curricular ICT bases for whole class use by other subject areas
• All-weather surface pitch for football, rugby etc. Dance studio. Fitness gym for student and staff use
• Dedicated Post-16 centre
• New/extended buildings housing Performing Arts, Science, Technology, Languages, Maths and Art
Outside of the classroom, there is a staffroom social committee which organises various events as well as regular Friday evening sporting sessions for those with energy!

I grew and developed as a teacher more in one year at Cheam than I did in my previous 5 years of teaching. The opportunities to develop professionally amongst colleagues across the whole school are excellent. Over the last four years my teaching practice has continued to develop and Cheam actively encourages me to grow further.- Post-threshold Teacher

I started at Cheam High School during my PGCE year. During my time here, I've had loads of support and encouragement to continually improve my teaching. The staff are always willing to help, no matter what the query is, and I feel proud to be a part of a school that achieves outstanding results. It's the type of environment that will continue to make me a better teacher.- 2nd Year Teacher
I really like the range of opportunities there are at Cheam and things that you can get involved in. All of the staff are really supportive and there are lots of systems in place that work effectively. The induction training received upon starting at Cheam was excellent and gave me a great foundation to begin in the classroom- 3rd Year Teacher
