About Ipswich High School
Ipswich High School is a vibrant day and boarding school for boys and girls aged 5-18, set in an idyllic 87-acre campus in Woolverstone on the banks of the River Orwell. With approximately 450 pupils, everyone at Ipswich High School is well known and nobody is left out. We have small classes of hard-working pupils and inspirational teachers who help to instil a love of learning; the results of which are exceptional academic outcomes year-on-year.
We are just as ambitious outside of the classroom and pride ourselves on the huge breadth of our co-curricular programme as well as offering a home-from-home boarding environment in our stunning newly developed boarding house.
Above all, our ambition is not to make our pupils fit a pre-defined view of what they should be. We believe in getting to know every pupil and using our school to inspire them to achieve more than they previously thought possible and to leave us believing there are no limits to what they can achieve, for themselves and for others.
The school was founded in 1878 and since 1992 has been situated in the Grade 1 listed Palladian mansion, Woolverstone Hall and The Diary Boarding House. The school occupies 87 acres of beautiful parkland in a rural location overlooking the River Orwell, four miles outside the county town of Ipswich. The spacious site has been adapted well to the needs of a forward-looking school with superb facilities, including a theatre, ICT suites, swimming pool, Sixth Form Centre, cookery rooms and AstroTurf pitch. The school capitalises on its outstanding natural surroundings: the woodland provides an outdoor learning area for the Pre-Prep and the pond and parkland are often used for scientific research.
At Ipswich High School, pupils follow a broad and balanced curriculum from which they enjoy great academic success. In 2019, 99% of our GCSE grades were 9-4 or A*-C with our 9-7 or A*-A pass rate being 64%. Equally, our 2019 A Level results were also impressive, 66% of our grades were A*-C, with a 100% pass rate.
