About Long Close School
Long Close School is a co-educational, independent school for children aged 2-16, situated in Slough, Berkshire.
The school was founded in 1940 and after a series of developments over the decades was bought by Cognita, the largest independent schools business in the UK, in 2004. The senior school opened in September 2006.
Values and vision
“Altiora Petimus” (We seek higher things) - the motto that sits beneath the Long Close School’s Winged Pegasus emblem - characterises its vision for all pupils, each of whom is prized as an individual. The school believes this individual approach is the best way to help each child become a happy, productive member of society, which is how it defines success.
Long Close children are taught the value of hard work, self-discipline and inner strength and that happiness comes from the pursuit of success rather than the trappings of it. Furthermore, they learn that they can share and spread that happiness through respect, tolerance, good manners, honesty, compassion and fair-mindedness.
“The quality of teaching and assessment is outstanding. Teaching is of consistently high quality. The high expectations that staff have of pupils along with the high expectations that pupils have of themselves create a thirst for learning that permeates all aspects of the school's work."
