Duke's Secondary School

Duke’s Secondary School, a part of the NCEA Trust, is an 11 to 19 academy based in Ashington, around 15 miles to the north of Newcastle upon Tyne. Our pupils come to us from the communities of Ashington, Newbiggin and Lynemouth.  Many transition to Duke’s from our partner primary schools, Bishop's, Thomas Bewick, James Knott, Grace Darling and William Leech but an increasing number of families choose Duke’s from other schools in the area.

Duke’s is an exciting place to learn and to develop, and we put a strong emphasis on being the best you can be here – this means working hard, developing great attitudes to learning, and experiencing as many different activities and opportunities as you can

We are a Church of England Academy, and as such we are motivated by our belief that every child is made in the likeness of God, and if nurtured, encouraged, challenged, and sometimes chastened, that child will flourish and their light will shine.

The school plays an active role in our communities and we encourage our pupils and staff to get involved in making the place we live and learn an even better place. We believe that success is different for every child and every staff member, and we encourage achievement in a wide range of outcomes: academic, vocational, sporting, music, drama, science and technology.

We value the curriculum outside of the classroom – whether that’s staff across all departments dressing up for Shakespeare day to inspire literacy across the curriculum; our Girls Get Set science and engineering club; rail club; or the many local, national and international trips and visits that expand our pupils’ horizons.

Most importantly, we want our children to enjoy their education; to learn well and to aspire to being the very best people they, and by extension, we can be.
