Whitmore was founded in 1974, and has about 1,600 pupils.

Whitmore High School aims to provide the best possible education for all pupils by promoting a balanced and broad curriculum which allows students to take an active part in their own learning.
The school recognises the needs of individuals, placing suitable but high demands on pupils to stimulate them to achieve success. Whitmore encourages students to aim for the highest standards of work and behaviour, and aims to promote an ordered and friendly community founded on respect, courtesy and shared values.
Whitmore High School acknowledges the importance of links between home, school and the wider community, and aims to maintain a spirit of constructive self-criticism. The school provides a wide range of pastoral and extra-curricular opportunities to enrich pupils’ personal development, and is a specialist science college.
