The AET is dedicated to co-ordinating and improving education support for all children with autism in England. It does this by sharing good practice, online research and resources and developing and delivering training opportunities for teachers and their support staff. Around one in 100 children is on the autism spectrum. Their education is the primary concern for most parents and carers. In April 2011 the AET was awarded a 1.2m Department for Education grant to develop and deliver the first ever national standard competency framework, qualification and training in autism education.
