As the title suggests, this is a colouring sheet for practising adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing with negative numbers. Unlike other maths colouring sheets, each sheet only requires four different colours and therefore requires fewer teacher supplies. Students answer the questions and colour based on their solution. This then creates a pattern which looks great on a classroom wall. The solution is the pattern displayed.
All feedback gratefully accepted.
A lesson on adding and subtracting negative numbers complete with an animated PowerPoint a a carefully designed differentiated worksheet.
The PowerPoint consists of a mixed review starter and then introduces the concept of adding and subtracting negative through the temperature in the classroom. e.g. Adding cold air will make the room feel colder (so more negative).
The PowerPoint also includes additional questions at select points to check students understanding before moving onto independent practice (Worksheet).
A fun, engaging negative numbers maths murder mystery for students to solve.
Students add, subtract, multiply and divide negative and positive numbers to solve the murder.
Complete answers are provided for all questions.
This resource is suitable for upper Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3 pupils.
The question and answer sheets both come in PDF format.

This is an introductory lesson to integers less than zero, which leads on to rudimentary calculations and subtracting negative numbers. This often spreads over two lessons, I find, after a discussion on whether negative numbers actually exist and some number line activity in the classroom, showing students that subtracting negative numbers is akin to facing 'the negative direction&', but then having to walk backwards.
A worksheet that was originally created for a low ability year 7 set, but could be used for key stage 2 pupils learning about negative numbers for the first time.
Suitable for both Key stage 3 and 4. This worksheet is designed to help pupils revise adding and subtracting negative numbers. The challenge allows pupils to apply their knowledge on negative numbers on a GCSE style exam question. The worksheet is fully differentiated (mild, medium spicy, hot and challenge) allowing pupils to work at different levels simultaneously. The worksheet also features a section for pupils to self-assess their understanding and set a target for next lesson.
Answers included which can be directly projected onto the smart board to allow pupils to self-assess their answers.
Ordering and a basic introduction to arithmetic with negative integers and decimals numbers. Including ordering, difference between positive and negatives, finding halfway between negative and positive numbers and simple arithmetic e.g. what is 3 less than -8.
This pack includes RAG question sheets (just the questions, intended for answers to be written elsewhere), worksheets (questions with spaces to write the answers) and answer sheets.
Simple worksheet with 3 different levels. Mostly arithmetic pratice, using a number line to find the difference between numbers.
An extra challenge with some word problems
This is a whole lesson based on the Year 6 Place Value objective of “Negative Numbers". This resource includes the teacher input ( learning journey), independent worksheet and a challenge activity to deepen the children’s understanding of the concept being learned.
The questions have been inspired and adapted from the White Rose Small Steps Guidance and Teaching for Mastery documents. This document is useful for teachers who have adapted Maths Mastery and need guidance in the approach or those who are looking for variation in fluency, reasoning and problem solving or simply those who don’t want to plan it themselves but want high quality resources and quality first teaching. =)
This document is uploaded as a SMART Notebook file and it is interactive. The concrete/pictorial manipulative can be used, moved and manipulated.
This document can be downloaded on SMART Notebook and it is also available as a PDF or as a PowerPoint for those who do not have SMART Notebook, however the PDF file is not interactive.
Please note - some of my resources are available on Activinspire and some of the newer content is available on SMART Notebook, please be aware of the file you are downloading before you purchase/ download.
Thank you for taking the time to review my resources. =)
I hope this helps you with your teaching and if it does please could you be kind enough to leave some positive feedback. =)
Kind regards,
@MasteryMaths01

A negative numbers worksheet covering adding, subtraction, multiplying, dividing and worded problems.
The worded problems are differentiated, I print out either the Level 1, 2 or 3 questions depending on the class. They are roughly the same questions, but with different numbers in.
A double-sided PDF worksheet on Negative number line which includes 12 number lines going from -10 to 10 with plenty of space around them to show jumps.
