A fantastic start of the school year activity. The children cut out, fold and colour the house template. Then the children can open the door and either add a photograph or a drawing of their family. In my class I read the children ‘The Family Book’ by Todd Parr (on YouTube) which describes lots of different types of families. Then I introduced this activity.

Extremism Radicalisation

(6)
NEW - 2 HOUR lesson all about extremism and radical ideology. Students will first explore how TikTok and Youtube algorithms can recommend videos which purposefully push radical views, from misogyny to extreme religion and more, to people who did not intentionally search for such content, and discover how people can fall down radical rabbit-holes. They will examine the 'frog in a pot' analogy to show how extremist views can take such a stronghold on people. Students will then explore the political spectrum to discover what we mean when we talk about far right, far left and religious extremism, comparing these to sensible left of centre, right of centre and moderate religious views. Using this guide, students will then examine real-life quotes from TikTok and assess whether the quotes would be classed as moderate and sensible views, or are in fact extreme. There are many more quotes than shown in the preview, so teachers can pick and choose which they use according to the suitability for their classes. There are also clip tasks and information packs included, as well as the detailed PowerPoint. Created for KS4, but could be edited for a high ability KS3 set. Everything is editable and ready to go. This lesson is taken from the new EC Publishing 2024 Complete Secondary Package. Who are EC Resources? EC Resources are the top TES PSHE providers and are a group of teachers who work together to create easy to use, high quality and editable lessons and units of work. We have created lessons for The Children's Commissioner, The Bank of England, The British Legion, MACS Charity, Tes, LikeToBe Careers, the Criminal Cases Review Commission (UK Gov) and have also completed PSHE and Citizenship commissions for schools across the UK.

Celebrating Differences Assembly!

(0)
This fun and original assembly aims to assist children in celebrating the differences between themselves and others, through: -Understanding how diversity is needed in the world; -Recognising and valuing the differences in their own school; -Considering how kind words can help us to unite together. I love leading this assembly, because I feel that the key message within it is so vital, especially in the present climate. More importantly, wherever I have presented this (to a wide-range of students from a wide-range of contexts) it has always gone down extremely well, with students being extremely engaged and informing me of the different ways in which they have celebrated differences in the months that follow! The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to Prince Harry, Emma Watson, and others in popular culture, to help engage the children in the idea that each individual has their own strengths, weaknesses, like and dislikes, no matter who they are or how successful they appear. There is also an exciting ‘toothpaste challenge’ included, which demonstrates the importance of ensuring that our words to others are kind and respectful. The challenge includes a hyperlink to a countdown clock. In addition to this, all other resources that you will need are provided in the pack. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Aspiration Assembly! (Primary)

(0)
This fun and original assembly aims to inspire children to be aspirational, through: -Understanding what aspiration is and recognising why it is important; -Finding out about successful and inspirational people who have been aspirational, gone on inspiring journeys and reached their goals (examples include Ed Sheeran, Beth Mead and Malala Yousafzai); -Demonstrating the power of aspiration through a powerful video - followed by discussion questions; -Looking at their own lives and considering how they can apply aspiration strategies (e.g. setting SMART targets, etc.) -Ending with reflection and a well-linked song. This assembly is tried and tested, and has always been really well received in the past. It is comprehensive (20 slides in total - there is enough material for a 30-40 minute assembly or two 20-minute assemblies). The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to scenarios and dilemmas that they themselves might find themselves in order to help them to make the right choices in their own lives. No further resources are required - everything that you need to present the assembly is included. The assembly presentation is fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker just in case. Hope that you find this useful!

Here we have a very powerful and engaging assembly that I ran for all year groups throughout the school (Year 7 to 13) - it shows just how diverse the content is, and the fact it is suitable for all! It covers some really important topics, and it is literally ready to go. Content includes: Definition of Social Media What do they post on Social Media? Once it is out there… (once posted, it is out there for all to see) The impact on others (suicide, depression, etc) What is a troll (video) Case Study - more information about a victim Facts and statistics about a Study on Trolling The impact on them (reputation, jobs, etc) What the police say GDPR Caroline Flack - including videos What to do if they see something potentially harmful The assembly worked really well - it took roughly 30 minutes but could have taken longer if we had more time available. Thanks!
