Presentation used as a starter or plenary in KS3 or 4 Science lesson to reinforce/revise knowledge of Periodic Table. Presentation contains 40 different challenges, each challenge should take no more than 2 minutes and I would suggest using them in blocks of 5. For each challenge students are given 3,4 or 5 elements and asked to use the letters of the Atomic symbol as an anagram to respond to the given clue. A full alphabetical list of the elements and their symbols is included in the presentation and hyperlinks for ease of navigation are embedded throughout. The whole presentation contains 84 slides.

Students randomly select two initials from a given list and are challenged to think of significant historical figures with those initials. The activity lends itself to individual or group work and class can be split into teams to promote an element of competition. Focus is maintained by the embedded 60 second timer for each challenge. Answers generated can be springboard for wide ranging discussions on the significance of the individuals named. The whole presentation has 16 potential activities with hyperlinks embedded throughout. Presentation designed for use as a starter or plenary activity in KS 3 English. In this presentation there are 60 different challenges , each challenge should last no more than 1 - 2 minutes. I used them in blocks of 6 with my middle ability English group. Every challenge follows the same structure in that the students are given a word with 4 different definitions. Students are asked to identify which is the closest to a correct definition. The presentation can be used interactively or as a pen & paper exercise. Presentation used in KS3 English as part of a unit on dialect, idiolect and functions of speech. The presentation was based on the contributions of 8 colleagues from different areas within England. The members of staff volunteered a number of terms that were part of everyday speech for their region. These were presented to the students who were asked to research (ICT) the meanings of the words. This activity was a springboard to a wide ranging discussion about the use of language in different areas and eras. The whole presentation contains 27 slides including some printer friendly (monochrome) slides for written work. Hyperlinks for ease of navigation are embedded throughout.

Presentation developed from a smaller unit of work used in Black History Month. Students were charged with researching and later presenting (ICT with a Powerpoint template) to the class details of a named individual who has made a contribution to the history of African America. The selection of individuals reflected the interests of the students, sport, music etc, this enabled an element of differentiation as some figures are clearly more documented than others. The students efforts have been collected and standardised into this presentation. 20 different individuals have been covered and the presentation includes paper friendly slides to facilitate homework or classroom display work. Presentation designed for use as a starter or plenary activity in KS 3 English. This presentation is an amalgamation of a number of smaller starters. In this presentation there are 60 different challenges , each challenge should last no more than 1 - 2 minutes. I used them in blocks of 5 with my middle ability English group. Every challenge follows the same structure in that the students are given 2 hints at a word used as a homonym and are challenged to decode the correct answer. The challenges get progressively more difficult (based on pupil feedback). As an extension activity pupils were challenged to produce (ICT) their own homonym challenge. Hyperlinks are embedded throughout for ease of navigation and the whole presentation consists of 63 slides.
