A lesson for some of the last lessons before the AQA language paper 2 GCSE exam. We have done practice papers to death, so tried to create some activities to explore possible themes and get thinking about viewpoints/perspectives and comparisons in a different (and maybe slightly more ‘fun’ way.

A lesson exploring how to write a persuasive speech using part of Emma Watson’s HeForShe speech to the UN. Analysing the methods used and their effect, as well as applying to own writing.

A full walkthrough based on the AQA GCSE Language paper 2 exam. Section A only, but clear examples for each question, along with self assessment criteria and modelling opportunities. Extract is AQA exam from 2023 (I think) THe camping one.

A full walk through of the AQA language paper 1 exam - adapt to suit 2026 style exam. Using the AQA Nov 2018 exam ‘Sound of Thunder’ (the T-Rex one). Space for teacher to do a ‘we do’ task together, but there is a prompt in the notes of the AQA band 4 indicative content. Insert and questions taken from AQA past paper. The creative writing task is the one from that paper (light through the station windows) and includes some planning stages including helping students develop extended metaphor. Also a self assessment sheet to help students evaluate their own creative writing.

A walk through to support students learning/revising the unseen prose element for AQA English literature exam. Whilst it is specifically relevant to AQA A specification, it should be equally useful for all unseen prose elements from all specs Using the exam from 2017, I Am Charlotte Symonds, there is guided support for writing and planning an answer. In addition, there is elements exploring specific context, and applying it.

A walk through of AQA GCSE language paper 2 based on the Mountaineering past exam. Section A only, but full guidance on planning and answering the question, as well as exemplar answer and student response opportunity.

A guided walk through using the past exam paper from AQA A A-level English Literature called ‘The Village’, exploring presentation of barriers. Lesson includes guided focus on annotating, crafting a thesis/intro, applying context and writing/drafting an Alevel essay.

A lesson (with basic lecture notes/prompts) exploring the motif of clothing in Taming of the Shrew. Specifically aimed at AQA A specification, but could fit to any TOTS exam board. Article is not mine - but found on free access at the British Library.

A revision lesson based on the servants in Taming of the Shrew. Made for a class following AQA-A Alevel specification, but not really specific to that.

A lesson exploring features of persuasive writing using extract from Malala’s speech to the UN. Develops understanding of persuasive methods and how to use in own writing.

A walk through of the AQA language paper 2 section A for the SAiling paper (I think it was June 2020?) includes hints and tips, modeling opportunities, guidance and practice time.

Really useful resource for year 11 students to revise the set poems. Worksheets to revise each of the Love and Relationship poems from the AQA spec. I use them for homework mainly and I Have designed it so there should be something for all abilities to be able to answer. I have put all the poems onto one word document for ease of downloading, although it has done something to the question numbers (nothing to do with the actual resource) - I can send the individual sheets if required.

PPT and resources (some adapted and some differentiated). Lesson judged as outstanding previously. Introducing Shakespeare's life.

Lesson aimed at year 7 students introducing the idea and difference of comedy and tragedy.

A lesson, with all resources, on the pome 'Stealing' in preparation for the unseen part of the GCSE exam. This lesson includes reference to EDUQAS spec, but is equally relevant to all specs.

A revision presentation (took a few lessons to go through) on themes in Hamlet and linked to contexts of production and reception. Great for any board that studies Hamlet, although written specifically for EDUQAS' outgoing A level. Lecture notes on sex and sexuality included too.

Lesson looking at how a brochure is set out and requiring students to explore their own brochure page (some example brochure pages included in case they don't bring any/have any). leading onto creating their own brochure and look at presentational layout, persuasive and descriptive skills.

Lesson on poem structure - acrostic and adjectives.

A whole walking talking mock revision session for the language paper 2 of AQA new 9-1 GCSE exam. Using the sample assessment materials (festivals and fairs extract) on e-AQA. For all abilities. Really emphasises requirements for each question and timings.

A full scheme of work/resources looking at a range of poetry types and devices for year 7 middle-ish ability.

Looking at inference using range of text types including Harry Potter. Some grammar/sentence level work too.
