This is a fully differentiated lesson helping learners to improve and develop their reading and writing skills. The lesson is ideal for learners studying any level of the functional skills qualification or KS3-KS4 English.
The first part of the lesson focuses on the effective use of adjectives to help express our views in an appropriate manner. The lesson then moves on with a sample reading assessment with answers provided on the PowerPoint.
The lesson uses the theme of Christmas to explore different forms of writing. The lesson also helps to improve writing skills and includes two model responses.

This resource is aimed at students who are studying Level 1 Functional Skills English. The lesson involves playing a video whereby the students have to use their inference skills to guess what will happen next. The final task involves them continuing the story using first person narrative which will prep them for their writing exam. For a starter the students could list real life scenarios where they use their inference skills and for a plenary the students could share their stories and give peer feedback.
