The Development Gap: Aid and Intermediate Technology

(0)
AQA GCSE Geography lesson for the new specification unit 2B. In this lesson we look at how aid and intermediate technology can help to reduce the development gap. There is a literacy retrieval starter where the students pick three words from the last few lessons to link together in a sentence. We then look at the different types of aid and students need to match the type of aid to the description. They then complete a cloze exercise to explain how aid can help to reduce the development gap. We look at the Goat Aid scheme from Oxfam and the students use a poster template to complete and colour in a Goat Aid poster. We then look at the definition of intermediate technology and the students complete a quiz on whether the examples on the board are intermediate technology or not. We then look at the example of Adis Nifas in Ethiopia and the students annotate a grid of symbols to show the features of the scheme. We then tackle a 6-mark GCSE-style question and the pupils use a writing frame and some point and evidence suggestions to help answer the question if needed. hope this saves you valuable planning time. https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/markthegeographer

NEA Easy Marking Sheet for AQA Design and Technology

(1)
This resource can be used to ease marking of NEA for Design and Technology. The specific language is taken directly from the AQA mark scheme, but it has been put in chart form with areas identified, so that different mark bands can be easily seen for each section of the NEA. This is a new resource this year for my department, this type of format has helped a lot in Food for several years. It can also be shared with students so they can see how to progress to higher marks using simplified terms. Simply tick the box that you think the students work fits into for that section and the use that information to make your judgement about each section, information can then be transfered easily to the AQA official paperwork.

DESIGN TECHNOLOGY BASELINE TEST KS3

(2)
After some research and necessary updating of our baseline test for year 7, I have created the following resource to encompass all of the areas within KS3 DT (for my department this is Product Design (timber, metal, plastics, electronics) F&N and Textiles. The resource is broken down in to a page roughly for each subject area, with focus on numeracy, measuring and basic use of equipment. Identification of tools and machinery in the department are also included as well as more detailed questions for F&N, including hygiene and a design based task to measure creativity, design skills etc. I have yet to develop a mark scheme for this, but the test has been made simple enough for marking to allow for peer assessment, with the design question being the only one that may require teacher critique. I hope you find it useful, please leave some feedback! Enjoy, GB

This resource is a revision resource for the new AQA design and technology specification. The resource is a revision clock with all sub headings the pupils need to know and understand. This would help for revision. There is also an example of how the resource should look when completed but the example is a Geography example as I found my pupils would just copy if they saw the exact information needed. Thanks

GCSE Music – Revision – Performance Techniques, Articulation, Technology

Performance Techniques, Articulation, Technology Questions For GCSE Music, there are many terms that students need to know, and be able to identify aurally, but which aren’t regularly covered by many of the styles of music studied. This revision resource brings together many of the key musical terms from three areas of GCSE Music: Performance Techniques (eg pizzicato, arco, distortion, glissando) Articulation (eg staccato, legato) Technology (eg reverb, panning, sample) There are 17 questions, totalling 50 marks. The assessment comes with a link to FREE audio, running for 37 minutes: perfect for a revision lesson, or as homework. The extracts are (almost!) all from Popular Music, and feature a range of music by Buddy Holly, Primus, Maria Muldaur, Extreme, Nitro, Queen and Bon Jovi, plus more. The bundle includes the full paper and mark scheme, plus the questions and mark scheme separately, in case you want to set it remotely. Please have a look at my shop for a wide variety of resources to support the GCSE course. www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/NPTJ NB This resource was originally written to support the Eduqas GCSE course, and is the same as the one with “Eduqas” in the title in the TES shop.

I use this for pupils who are in inclusion or who have not got ingredients for the practical session. It means I can get on with practical work rather than finding something for the pupils to do. It also helps improve knowledge of the subject and covers in more depth some of the work it is not possible for me to cover in a 10 week rotation.
