This is an ideal book to use for a half term because it is not too long and it is engaging. However, please be aware that it includes a boy in a coma and it could upset some children if they have recently experienced an illness or loss in the family.

I have made this resource for my Year 5 class to use to support their reading skills. All of the questions relate to the reading domains (2a-2h), I have tried to make them look similar to what they might be seeing in their SATs. The questions relate to four page chunks of the book to give them time to read and answer the questions in a guided reading session. Hope you find it useful, some of the questions may not link directly to the strands (I'm by no means an expert!) so if anything needs changing please comment.

During this unit the children will explore some aspects of life in Palestine and Afghanistan. This unit is based upon the Michael Mupurgo books; ‘The Kites are Flying!’ and ‘Shadow.’ Initially the children will locate the countries using maps. They will investigate the history and reasons for conflict. They will gain an understanding of climate and learn how to use climate graphs. The children will also learn about different ethnicities and the impacts this can have upon a civilisation. Following on from this, they will learn about the different types of migration and consider the impact of forced migration. Finally, they will be introduced to the term ‘quality of life’ and will make decisions about how they would choose to improve the lives of the people in Afghanistan and Palestine.
The lessons here are part of an introductory unit to the new Eduqas GCSE English Language course. Most of the lessons are based on material found within the WJEC Eduqas GCSE Book 1 English Language. They are meant to compliment the text and guidance given by Eduqas.
Used for Year 7 classes, these lessons focus on different parts of speech (verbs, adjectives, adverbs and prepositions) and aim to have students paying closer attention to word choices when writing creatively and descriptively. Ideal for London teachers, but could be used or adapted by any. A homework booklet is included. See Part 2 of this unit also... http://goo.gl/2oFOz
