**Sustainability - why do we need to consume our resources responsibly? ** A detailed, editable 1 hour lesson all about sustainability and the reasons why we need to consume our planet’s resources responsibly. Created to fit an ‘adaptive teaching style’ the lesson is influenced by Rosenshine’s principles of instruction, and promotes both cognitive and metacognitive strategies. In this lesson, the students will discuss what it means to live sustainably and identify examples of unsustainable products and activities. We will describe the environmental impact of unsustainable living and explain why we need to change and how we can go about doing it! The lesson is ideally suited to students in UKS2 or younger students in KS3. The resources are fully editable, and therefore easy to amend should you wish to use the resources with other year groups. The lesson is fully-scaffolded, contains a variety of activities, an hour long PowerPoint, contains a brand new in-house EC Publishing video clip, and has clear measurable outcomes and success criteria. The task is fully scaffolded as students work through a planning booklet , filling it out based on structured class discussions of the different features needed- energy, waste management, nature, food, housing, infrastructure etc. Lots of ideas are included in the notes section of the PPT slides to steer the pupils ideas. The lesson has two retrieval practice starter options for you to populate. We then introduce the concept of urban sustainability. The pupils then complete a variety of tasks as we look at water conservation (with Cape Town as an example of water stress). Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS).
