OCR GCSE LITERATURE YOUTH AND AGE POETRY WORKBOOK- First 3 poems

(1)
The beginning section of a workbook on all poems (Youth and Age) from the new 9-1 OCR GCSE LITERATURE COURSE. Aimed at KS4 students but could be used for top KS3 too. This would also work as a KS3 taster if a different collection was going to be studied for KS4. This has the introductory section plus activities on the poems: 'When I have Fears..." Keats 'Holy Thursday' Blake 'The Bluebell' Bronte The activities on each are supposed to draw the students' attention to key aspects of the poem as well as addressing assessment objectives or laying the foundations for meeting them. Also includes a poetry revision grid which can be photocopied and used as a tool for students for all poetry, including unseen. Other sections to follow as I make them. 12 pages with 2 as large images of Blake's etchings.

Paper 1 and Paper 2 Reading Sections each take up a page. I have taken each question and highlighted command words and summarized what the question is looking for or 'wants'. As the papers mirror one another they are the same in parts apart from question 2, which is made clear. I have also added a sample comparative sentence example for each section 4. Each writing advice section takes up half a page. The Literature is a similar set-up with each component taking half a page. It's what we as teachers know but I've condensed it down so students can see that these exams are manageable and some questions want the same approach.

Introduction to Poetry Game: Poetry Murder Mystery for Browning's 'Porphyria's Lover'

These 7 resources make up a 2 lesson poetry game that can serve as an introduction to poetry for KS3/ KS4 or a way into the poem/ revision for KS4. The aim is to introduce students to poetry and analysis by putting them in the place of detectives (I think originally a Paul Ginnis idea). The lesson forces students to be collaborative, it's competitive so has worked well with my reluctant boys and it has constant teacher assessment throughout. You can also differentiate as you go- because the students bring you the answer each time they complete one, you can decide if that is good enough for that particular group or if you want to push them to be more specific. It includes; A PowerPoint detailing lesson outline A vocabulary starter ( linked to words in the poem) Evidence cards A detective report Student instructions Murder mystery analysis tables (completed AFTER mystery solved) A copy of the poem (Only to be give AFTER mystery solved!) It's good fun for both students and teachers!

1. A poetry card sort with terms, definitions and examples. Answer sheet included for easy assessment and muddled version to be cut up without the students being able to ‘put the piece of A4 back together’ which they do like to try! 2. A PEA card sort, linked to ‘Porphyria’s Lover’ by Browning. Can be used without having studied the poem using logic. Has an answer sheet for easy assessment. 3. A scaffold for planning and writing a comparative essay in an exam or for a class assessment. Some bonus questions at the start which link to the Place section of the AQA anthology, but the rest is generic. Suitable for a range of abilities and KS3/4.
