Figurative Language - Word Bank

(0)
A resource to support learning figurative language or building descriptions - I have modelled some examples of describing the same literal phrase using a range of figurative techniques. Some are left blank - a good discussion point for what techniques work best when, and an opportunity for children to add their own. There are then some literal ones to do independently and blank rows for building a word bank. I have used in lessons, interventions, and for tutoring.

Harry Potter Model Diary Entry

(0)
A model diary entry from Harry’s perspective about the events in Chapter 3 of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, along with a task for identifying the features and an extension. This diary entry is stopped short (we pretended he was writing it on the floor of the hut at the end of the chapter) to represent the moment Hagrid knocks on the door. I used it to teach cohesion between diary entries, as the children then wrote the next entry, emulating the style but about the events of Chapter 4. However, if you wanted to use it just as a model, it would only need a few more words to complete it.
