This resource has been updated for 2018. All new files have the prefix ‘2018’. I have not changed a great deal because the unit worked well last year. Though I have updated some of the note and coin images to make them clearer. The plan has been updated to include possible misconceptions and statements from the 2018/19 SATs TAF. I’ve also done a WILF with the small steps to track progress through the unit and for the children to self assess. Both the new and old files are available. This upload contains all resources needed to teach this unit. I have used the small steps tracker to plan the lessons. This plan includes 10 detailed lessons and 2 assess/review/intervention sessions. The flipcharts have been created using ActivInspire. A version can be downloaded free to view flipcharts or you may be able to import it into your whiteboard software. If not, I have included the flipchart as a pdf. The flipcharts follow the structure of the plans and contain 67 slides with visual material taken from the White Rose examples and lots of questions. The worksheets are very visual and easy to follow. Most lessons have differentiated activities and a greater depth challenge activity for pupils who complete the work. The worksheets and the flipcharts are created with our school cursive font. Again, I have included these as a word document so that you can change the font if you wish, and also as a PDF if preferred. I am a Year 2 teacher and maths co-ordinator with many years experience of teaching EYFS up to Year 5. I currently work part time so have the time to create detailed plans but also need to ensure that my plans are detailed so that my job-share is able to follow them. If I do notice any errors or think of any improvements, I will change or add these to the file as I work through them.

I have attached my updated files from 2019. I have made a few changes to this unit. In particular we spent a little longer at the beginning on practical work, sharing practically using large versions of the laminated bar model mats (included). We then moved onto sharing dots. All of the new files have a 2019 prefix. (Old files are still there). I have tried to include everything as a PDF too. The unit now includes 8 lessons with all resources. This plan includes 6 detailed lessons based on the small steps from the White Rose Maths Planning guidance. The resource pack includes everything needed to teach this block. The worksheets are differentiated with additional structure for the LAPs. All resources have been made using Word so are adaptable to suit your own class. I have used our school cursive font which you may wish to change. I have also included them as PDFs if you want to use them as they are. The file includes a flipchart with 41 slides to teach the 6 lessons with lesson objectives, key questions, prompts and visual images. This has been created using ActiveInspire. If you don't have this, you should be able to convert this via your own whiteboard software or by downloading the free viewing software. If you still experience problems, I have included it as a PDF so you can still use it with your class. Update: I have just added the sheet that I will use to baseline and assess their multiplication and division targets. I am also involved in a mastery research project and needed to think of a challenge linked to our work where the children could demonstrate their reasoning skills. I have adapted a challenge from ncetm that I could differentiate as it also needed to be suitable to year 3 pupils. I have included this too as it might be useful for a starter or extension task.

I have tried to include everything as a PDF too. This is my next unit of work. It contains planning for 10 lessons with the structure and activities taken from the White Rose Maths small steps. I have kept the planning quite simple - moving towards an intro/let’s learn… let’s talk about it… Let’s do it and Let’s use it - approach. I have also added a misconceptions section - taken from the GLOW maths hub planning as I felt that was missing from previous plans. I have included suggestions for continuous provision opportunities. There are 50 flipchart slides to guide you through each lesson with lots of talking and problem solving/greater depth opportunities. The flipcharts have been created using ActivInspire. A viewer version is available to download free at: https://support.prometheanworld.com/download/activinspire.html You maybe able to import/convert it though your software or failing that I have also included it as a PDF so you can use it that way. The workseets are added as 2 separate files as some are portrait orientation and some are landscape. Most are differentiated 2 or 3 ways. The worksheets are visual and structured making good use of different arrays and scaffolding/modelling the correct vocabulary and ways of recording. If I find anything else of use to support the teaching of this unit, I will add it to this upload.

4.9.18 - I have updated these files based on my teaching experience last year and the new 2018/9 TAF. I have added a little more detail and adapted some of the resources. There are 10 lessons in total with all the resources provided. I have chosen not to include the ‘partitioning in different ways’ as I found that my children struggled with this at this point in the year. I have included PDF versions of each file if you are having problems with the word documents and the flipchart is also included as a PDF. My intention is to go through all my units and update them in this way. If you have already purchased this resource, you will be able to download the new resources for no additional charge. This is the planning that I have produced for my own class. I have used the White Rose Small Steps tracker to guide the planning. There are 12 fully planned lessons in total with 3 planned sessions for review/assessment/intervention I have produced resources to accompany each. All of the resources are included. The worksheets are very visual and are differentiated across 2, 3 or 4 ways - clearly labelled on the top of each worksheet. We use a cursive font at our school and the terms ‘WALT’ and ‘WILF’ but these are word documents so this could be easily changed once you have downloaded the resources. Many lessons have extension/greater depth activities which are also differentiated. I have also included my flipchart. Produced with ActivInspire but again I believe that it can be converted for Smartboard or powerpoint. The flipchart contains 47 pages for the 12 lessons. Lots of visual images and questions. This has taken a great deal of time to produce so I would welcome feedback. We started back on 24/9/17 so we are already well into this unit. It is going well, though I am thankful for the planned opportunities for review/assessment and intervention!

Maths lesson resource pack focusing on breaking down the problem solving process. Suitable for years 4-6. Incudes detailed lesson plan with suggestions how to use the powerpoint and the activity sheets. The word problems are grouped by operation with a separate set of multi step problems. They are also grouped by difficulty with questions for LAPs, APs and HAPs. I copied these questions on different coloured paper and cut them up and children selected one at a time, using the RUCSAC method to solve them. There is also a WILF grid or grid for self assessment using the lesson success criteria.

UPDATED OCTOBER 2018 planning includes images from NCETM unit on addition and subtraction and has been updated to reflect how things went last year. All new planning and resources has a ‘2018’ prefix, though I have kept all the older planning in the folder too. First 2 (out of 5) weeks planning for Year 2 Maths - Autumn Term - Block 2 (Addition and Subtraction), following the new White Rose small steps planning guidance. Using models and images from these plans. There are 10 lessons (including 2 assess/review sessions), which I have found really helpful to give time to go assess children’s learning or provide intervention for children with gaps before moving on. I have also included my flipchart - created using Active Inspire - though I believe this can be converted to a ppt or smartboard if preferred. The presentation has 40 slides to help teach these lessons. I have also included the resources/worksheets mentioned in the planning. There are 19 sheets in total. Some lessons are differentiated 2 or 3 ways and many lessons have a greater depth activity for children to attempt at the end. The worksheets are made using our school cursive script - though these are included as word documents should you wish to change it - or as a pdf if you want to use them as they are. I am in the process of completing the final 3 weeks of the block and will add this to the files when finished. *I’ve made a few small changes to the worksheets for day 3. My class found this quite difficult and I think getting them to put the numbers onto a part-part whole diagram first would help them to understand the inverse and how they could check the calculation better. * I’ve added the baseline assessment for the targets. I gave pupils roughly 10 mins (with access to number lines/bead strings etc), to complete as much as they could and used this to make my baseline assessment of recall and derive + and - facts to set their targets. I intend to re-do the test in 2-3 weeks to check their progress and again 2-3 weeks after that. *I’ve saved the flipchart as a pdf if you are struggling to view it.

This unit of work follow the White Rose Maths small steps guidance for statistics to be taught as block 2 in the Spring Term. It covers 7 sessions. The plan is detailed and hopefully easy to follow. For each lesson their are slides on the flipchart which has been created using Activ Primary. you should be able to import and convert in your own whiteboard software but I will also include it as a PDF to use as it is. It has 29 slides to guide you through the key questions and learning for each lesson. There are worksheets to accompany each lesson, many of which as differentiated. THIS HAS BEEN UPDATED OCTOBER 2018 The unit includes ideas from the NCETM until on addition and subtraction and I have adapted it in light of last year’s teaching. I have kept the older version as well, if you would prefer to use that. All new resources have a 2018 prefix. This is the second part of my plans and resources. All you need for weeks 3-5 to teach addition and subtraction to Year 2 using the White Rose Small Steps planning guidance. This resource includes my plans - 15 lessons (including 2 opportunities to review/assess) - I have found it useful to plan these in to spend a little time on intervention, pre teaching or enrichment opportunities for children to consolidate and develop their learning. All the resources are included for each lesson. Worksheets are differentiated and their are greater depth activities. 34 pages of worksheets in total. I have tried to use the models and images used in the small steps guidance to support practical work with base 10/dienes. I have included these are a word doc and a pdf. This is the next unit of my planning which covers the White Rose Maths Spring Block 4 - FRACTIONS. It follows the outlined small steps and includes a detailed plan, accompanying flipchart and all resources needed to teach this unit. There are 11 lessons. I made the choice not to include the last step (counting in fractions), as this is not mentioned in the YEAR 2 curriculum or SATs TAFs. I may instead cover this at the end of the year after SATs. Most worksheets are differentiated and include a greater depth challenge or task. There are two files of worksheets. Most are ‘portrait’ orientation, the others are labelled ‘landscape’. All resources are clearly labelled with the lesson they match and the ability group that they are intended for. The resources are created using our school cursive font. You can use the pdf versions and use them as they are or download the WORD versions and change the font if you wanted. The flipchart has been created using ActivInspire. It contains 63 slides in total! I believe that you can download a free viewer or should be able to import it into your own flipchart software. If not, I have also included this as a PDF. I have also included my sharing mats. These are best used printed on coloured paper and laminated. The children can then share objects equally to find halves, quarters or thirds.

A three day maths plan linked to the 2008 world cup. could be adapted to future football events. This really got the children enthused and I used lots of other resources found on TES. It is linked to the New Framework and was used with my Year 4/5 class. I had lots of more able children, so it could also be used and adapted for a Year 6 class too. Topics also included: using and applying number.

I saw this activity on pinterest and thought it would work well on my challenge or busy table for the children to work out practically - or it could be used to support pupils with their classwork. The 'board' needs laminating. I have included a pdf version or a word version if you wanted to personalise it more. The spaces on the ten frame should be big enough to accommodate most counters, though using 2 different colours, (one for each number they are adding), would help the children to understand the number bond to 10. I have also included the cards with the addition calculations on. These could be copied onto coloured card or laminated so they can be used and used again. I intend to use this with my Year 2 class as part of the addition and subtraction White Rose Block - but it could also be used later on in the Year in Year 1 or to support SEN/LAPs in LKS2.

I created these mats to help children understand the relationship between addition and subtraction and help them to record a 'family of facts'. I laminated these - some onto A3 so that the children could work with them practically using cubes, counters - or any objects to split the whole into 2 parts. They then use whiteboard pens to write the addition and subtraction number sentences. There are a few variations - depending on what the focus is. I have used these with a Year 1 and Year 2 class but they could be helpful for looking at larger numbers with older children. I have included the files as word docs in case you want to change the font. It is in our school cursive script. I have also included the files as PDFs if you would like to use them as they are.

The file contains 12 posters containing the vocabulary taught in each area of mathematics in Year 2. These have been produced with a cursive script but I’ve included the files as word documents if you want to change this - or you can just print the PDF files. I enlarged them to A3 and laminated them and display them as part of my working wall to refer to as I teach and for the children to refer to. Although these were produced for Year 2, they could be easily adapted to suit any year group.
