Planning and resources for a DT unit on boats as a ‘free standing structure’ This unit is aimed at KS1 but there is lots of scope to adapt slightly for KS2.
The unit begins by looking at parts of boats and types of boats and then moves to FPTs on floating and sinking, hull shape, number of masts and sails and also shape sail - before children design and make their boats. The unit culminates in a regatta. This has worked really well in previous years and the children have got a lot out of it.
Note: in addition to this I used the boat pack on Twinkl with all the pictures of different boats but could not include this.
