Our favourite mental starter! Find a way to get the total for the 6 digits. We ‘juggle’ numbers to make 10 - but anything goes. Are you faster than the kids? You will need to enable macros for this to run and earler versions of excel need the add-in analysis toolpack 1 which you can locate on the tools menu.

Yearly overview, planning Y3 -Y6

(17)
Yearly/termly overview of planning based on the expected outcomes from each unit of work in the framework. I have not used the key objectives becuse you can get the same objective covered in blocks 1,2 and 3. ******* These are key words taken from the ‘expected outcomes’ part at the back of each unit of work. They show clear progression through each term and year. It gives a much clearer overview of what pupils should be doing and when. The print out on A4 is far too small. Enlarge photocopy onto A3.

APP maths assessment/analysis grids L1 - L5

APP Maths assessment/analysis grid Like a tick sheet but it does the hard work calculating totals and levelling. It works a bit like the SATs analysis grids. The best way to get to grips with this file is to download the ‘APP – example’ and look at the ‘How to…’ sheet. (take a look at print preview to get an overview) 3 levels of understanding can be recorded 0 – not able to do this 1 – demonstrates ability to do this in class 2 – can do this independently I’ve developed this file as The final sheet is for storing digital copies of evidence.

APP Maths assessment/analysis grid (hopefully compatible with all versions of excel) --Like a tick sheet but it does the hard work calculating totals and levelling – hopefully a quick, simple way of ensuring standardised scores throughout the school and reducing paperwork. It works a bit like the SATs analysis grids. The best way to get to grips with this file is to download the ‘APP – example’ and look at the ‘How to...’ sheet. (take a look at print preview to get an overview) --3 levels of understanding can be recorded 0 – not able to do this 1 – demonstrates ability to do this in class 2 – can do this independently I’ve developed this file as I’ve worked with APP in maths through the year. Ongoing assessment initially based on ‘gut instinct’ - it has become more complicated as I’ve added a space to include evidence of observations and children’s work which was difficult to compile retrospectively. I’ve printed single level descriptions for TAs to record their observation for SEN children. Overview of levels sheet fits into my tracking grids monitoring progress. The final sheet is for storing digital copies of evidence. I welcome any suggestions for improvement.

Random '100' square

(4)
Random ‘100’ square. Based on the principles of addition and subtraction using a 100 square. This small grid is a snapshot of a full 100 square grid. Click anywhere on the grid to reveal/hide numbers. A random grid - the number in the top left corner will be random anywhere between 2 given values (so can go to negatives). The step size can be changed (0.1, 1, 10, 100). Promotes counting forwards and back on in ones and tens. Good for strategies adding near multiples of 10. This also helped my class counting past 100/200 then bridging 1000. We also touched on the concept of negative numbers and patterns of decimals. Ideal for differentiated questioning. Make numbers that do the work for you! Macros will need to be enabled and analysis toolpak required for excel97-2003 version.

This is a multiplication number-line in an Interactive Excel file. Encourages recall of key number facts 2X, 5X and 10X for all times tables. Click anywhere below the number-line to reveal tables facts. I’ve used this to promote discussion about 20X, 15X 21X etc. Also for the more able – 0.5 times 4.5 times. Set up for up to 10 x tables at the moment but a bit of ‘tweaking’ would see this working for any tables facts. Macros will need to be enabled. Excel 97-2003 will need to load the add-in analysis toolpack1 from the tools menu. Grid Method. An interactive excel file.

2016 SATs Calculation Paper Assessment ideas

Assessment Papers 2016 SATs I created these calculations assessments earlier in the year based on the end of year expectations for year 4, 5 and 6. I was pleased to see my year 6 paper matched up well with the sample paper for SATs 2016 so I thought I would share them with you. I was working on a 30 point paper rather than the 40 points as now expected.
