40 resource pages with eight pages of teachers’ notes in a 51-page scanned PDF introducing written and spoken English skills for students needing support at KS4.

Activities cover work logs, organising information, purposes of writing, messages and instructions, sounds and symbols, reading responses, scene-setting, plots and characters, speaking, opinions and review. Assignment pages connect the skills to longer pieces of work, while work logs encourage students to assess their progress.

The teacher section gives guidance on using the activities, with suggestions for extension. Use individual pages with teacher-led discussion or combine them into units. The pack supplies support material rather than a complete English Language course.

This is the original 1989–1991 publication. Its GCSE coursework and assignment references reflect historical assessment arrangements and do not imply alignment with a current specification. The original scanned pages are retained.
