Activities cover spelling, spelling strategies and vocabulary: suffixes, vowel patterns, homophones, plurals, prefixes, apostrophes, anagrams, dictionaries, compounds, word classes, connectives, prepositions, figures of speech, similes, formality and ICT vocabulary.

Lesson plans provide outcomes, preparation, timing, grouping, differentiation and extension work where relevant. Additional starters need no pupil worksheet. Appendices supply a recording sheet and word-brick templates.

Designed for roughly 10–15-minute lesson openings, with some pages supporting several sessions. Use with Year 8 students of varied abilities, drawing on dictionaries, wordbooks, paper or individual whiteboards where directed.
