‘Famous Blue Raincoat’ is an enigmatic poem which poses as many questions as it answers. Its haunting lyrics have stayed with me ever since I first heard it, sat on the floor of a friend’s bedsit in Camberwell in 1971. The PowerPoint is an excellent introduction to working on the discovery of subtext and it was used very successfully for several years in Saudi Arabia as part of a Grade 12, American High School Diploma unit of work on the Poems of Love and Hate.
